Unfortunately, our faith is not something I often blog about often, but with all of the changes going on in our world right now, we are finding it very easy to lean on our faith. 100 Prayers God Loves to Hear, 100 Praise Songs
My four and seven year old know about God. They know how to pray, and sometimes even pray without prodding. We say 'grace' before dinner, and ask for help when things are lost. We encourage our children to develop a relationship with God.
That said, I wasn't too sure what to expect with this book until I received it. The book is sturdy- perfect for little hands. The illustrations are fun, and the prayers are practical. The first time we read the book, we read the little story, the prayer together, then the song. The problem with this was that my daughter (who loves sing-song soundtracks and CD's) wanted to play the song over and over and over again. My son wanted to hear the whole CD in it's entirety.
The next few times we read from the book, the kids and I specifically sat to read it together regarding a certain situation. They even repeated the prayers with me. It's such an awesome feeling listening to your children confess the word of God on to their lives. But I digress... it's not a real "preachy" book, definitely appropriate for children. It's not a children's bible, but still full of God's word.Alex likes that he can look up the stories by his situations in life, and Abbie likes that they're stories she can understand. (A HUGE + for us!!)
The chapter/prayer entitled Day is Done reads:
David was a shepherd boy. He watched over the sheep at night. Sheep say, "Baa!" He kept them safe from wolves and bears. Bears say, "Grr!" When David felt afraid, he would pray. If you are afraid, you can pray too!After each story and prayer there is a small section called "My Little Prayer Reminder" which contains quotes about prayer, faith, or God. Asking questions will expand their creativity as well as reinforce comprehension. It can also inspire them to write their own signs, recipes or stories!
* Pick out a simple and tasty recipe with your budding Super Reader. Ask them to point out all of the letters and words they already know in the ingredients
* Write a grocery list together, sounding out the words as you go along
* At the supermarket, have your kids help read the signs so you can find the ingredients you need
* As you cook, read the recipe out loud every step of the way
* Before serving your delicious treat, create colorful place cards for each member of the family, assisting your preschooler in writing out the names. Have fun – and bon appetite!
Each episode of Super WHY, the award-winning literacy series from Out of the Blue Enterprises, engages young viewers in fun, interactive alphabet and word games, as well as imagination-stimulating spelling, vocabulary and comprehension activities, helping to instill a life-long love of reading all along the way!
Early literacy is the key to success. You will hear me say this many times over the course of a year, especially when I find a great book, program, or activity that encourages children to read, and have fun while reading.
Recently, 4BabyAndMom was given the opportunity to review IBW-Books. Over the summer, my goal was to help Alex with writing. He has such an inventive imagination, but hates to write. He can write, but as a gifted child, he gets very frustrated because he can read these enormous words but when he writes and mis-spells a word, doesn't want to complete the task at hand because he knows it's just not right.
Interactive Book Webscenes allow for children, parents and teachers to explore and expand the lesson beyond the words of the book. I personally feel that IBW books would be great assets for home-school moms, and a great tool to encourage creative writing. For our family, that was exactly what I used the IBW books we 
received with Alex for.
At one particular webscene, a little lost bee meets a bear on a bike, we stopped reading the book and I asked him to brainstorm and tell me what he thought was going to happen next to "Wee Bee". Alex actually stopped for a moment to think and then told me his whole theory. I asked for him to draw me a picture, and write a couple of sentences under it, and he did! It was the first time all summer that he wrote willingly.
I love the fact that the IBW-Books are in both English and Spanish, as we are trying to build the childrens bilingual vocabulary little by little, and own very few books in Spanish. The webscenes are even in Spanish as well, which help to reinforce the key words we are learning or concentrating on.
