Make Back to School Breakfast Bearable With New Honey Kix !
Thanks to MY BLOG SPARK, we recently had the opportunity to review the new Honey Kix cereal.
Breakfast at our house during the school year consists of a waffle on the run, or if the kids and I got ready quick enough, a bowl of cereal and a piece of fruit.
I'm more of an old fashioned mom, as I refuse to buy my kids the sugary cereals on the market. Not to mention, Alex gets a little hyper after sugary cereal, chocolate milk, or anything that highly concentrated. Regular Kix is one of our staple boxes of cereal, and when I heard of the new, lightly sweetened Honey Kix, I was excited to have the opportunity to review it.
General Mills and My Blog Spark sent us a full Honey Kix kit with a travel cereal container, a plastic pantry storage box, a honey jar, a new Honey Kix at home ceral bowl, and our coupon for a free box of cereal. The kids were so excited to have Honey Kix for breakfast, so I took the coupon to the store so that everything would be set for the morning. I set up the coffee table as a mini bistro, with just enough time to take a picture before the kids dove in.
So, all three of us grabbed a bowl-full, and started munching. The texture of Honey Kix is a little different than regular Kix and although it's sweetened, it's only got 6 grams of sugar. It's made with real sugar, and brown sugar syrup, but contains no high fructose corn syrup. Honey Kix is a good source of fiber, calcium and vitamin D, contains 16 grams of whole grain per serving (at least 48 grams recommended daily) and has no artificial flavors or preservatives. A perfect balance of taste and nutrition through simple ingredients, which both moms and kids can agree on!
I was very impressed with the quality, value and taste of new Honey Kix, and think that it would make a good variety for our morning breakfast routine.
Want it?
Head to your local grocery store to try Honey Kix for yourself. Not sure where to find new Honey Kix? Visit the General Mills product locator page here to find a store near you that carries it.
WIN IT!
Our friends at General Mills and My Blog Spark have decided to make back to school more bearable for one lucky reader with everything you need for a wholesome breakfast- delivered right to your door! One winner will receive the same Honey Kix kit that I received to review!

The secret? Routine! The same boring thing every day makes everything run super smooth. Little man wakes up, goes potty, goes downstairs, eats breakfast (he used to be an oatmeal guy, now it's yogurt), gets dressed, brushes teeth and we put gel in his hair. He is not allowed to watch tv (kiddie tv, we usually have the news or something on) and he isn't allowed to play - those things are too distracting and they will be waiting for him when he gets back from preschool. We just tell him if he has a great day at school he can come home and play! Oh, and an early enough bedtime. On preschool days, to bed at 7:30pm and he sleeps until 7:15am or so.

Our back to school routine starts about a week before, with bedtimes and wake up times in full affect! It is hard, but makes the first day a LOT easier! I take care of as much as possible at night--clothes, shoes, backpacks packed and by front door, lunch boxes out, etc.... I have 3 kids in elementary school and a one-year-old.

A routine bedtime 2 weeks before school starts is essential. Get them up, bathroom turns, simple breakfast, and out the door. Approximately 1/2 an hour if you have prepared lunches the night before.

I think the biggest tip is to get the kids into a routine. Early bedtime makes the mornings so much easier. Then I have clothes, breakfast & lunch ready so they can eat & go. (Getting back into the routine is going to be my challenge)I need to start this routine atleast a week in advance.

We lay our clothes out the night before so when they wake up they get dressed right away. My kids are very young so they want to get up, get dressed and eat. Then they have time to play before leaving for the day.

I do as much as I can the night before so we wont have to wake up so early in the morning. Lay out clothing, prepare some of the breakfast, get the toothpaste ready!
My tip is to get everything you can done the night before. 3 kids plus unexpected morning chaos isn't fun!!!

i place my daughters outfit out on the kitchen table for her the night before so she can change in the morning - the hardest part is to get her to eat fast - she is hard to get up and will stay in bed as long as possible - i make sure her backpack is ready the night before. I usually pack her lunch while trying to get her to eat and brush her teeth.
Its always a hectic time - school mornings

Part of backtoschool shopping can be letting the kids choose their breakfast cereal. You have a much better chance that they'll settle and eat while you juggle clothes/lunch/packpack. .

enjoyed reading the other post!
bed time is consistant,no caffeine drinks(pop, etc) 1 hour before bedtime.Only water or milk. The kids rise one hour before time to leave.Gives us plenty of time. They get up and move around a few minutes and then are offered breakfast,Helps to ask night before if they have a preference they'd like.(involve them )
After that ,time to brush teeth, get dressed(clothes laid out night before) and hair time-both boys does not take too long..lol.
backpacks are already hanging on the doornob ,snack and drink were added the night before and they eat lunch at school. Most times we have 10 or 15 minutes before time to leave and they are allowed tv time..This is with a 4 and 7 year old.hope some of it helps...
