Baby Boy Take Home Outfit- NEED YOUR HELP! Pregnancy Vent...

Baby clothes are flipping adorable. Super snuggly, soft, and atrociously adorable. It's been six years since I had to really shop for baby items, more specifically, clothes.
I'm really having a hard time with this. I vented to my friends the other day, and they all almost died with my stories of shopping, and recommended I shared it with you all- and maybe someone, somewhere on the world-wide-web, can help this hormonal, preggy mommy out.

When Alex was born, Carter's was "IT". Nine years ago, they had this super cute line of duckies, the John Lennon collection, and this snuggly little puppy dog. He received a plethora of ducky outfits (all very boy, blue backgrounds, or more "masculine" looking), and several doggy outfits. I purchased his "take home outfit" from Carter's and fell in love. It was this adorable blue/blue-green colored cotton, long legged bib-overalls, with a long sleeve onesie, and the Carter's puppy was on the chest. It had a matching hat, and I even got the matching bib and booties (which I believe had puppies, too... I really need to hunt down my album and upload a pic..). I digress...

He looked adorable! 100% boy, but sweet, cute, handsome baby boy.

Abbie was born three years later, and we dressed her like a porcelain doll. She really did look like a doll. Her hat was a little too big, so it gave her a "southern belle" dolly look, but it totally fit my first Florida-born kid.

Now, here we go again, and I have started my quest for a take home outfit that is uniquely him. I'm finding out that moms of "this generation" are either really into the "metro-baby" idea, or wickedly insecure. Either way, I'm not into it. I might get some slack for this, but hear me out.

Alex was a bald, big eyed baby boy. I dressed him in reds, blues and grass green- with dinosaurs, cars, trucks and trains, and I still had people tell me how beautiful "she" was.  Abbie wore nothing but dresses, 99.9% of her first three years. I STILL had people tell me how cute "he" was. Maybe I have a complex, but this time around, I'm having a really hard time buying outfits that have salmon colored stripes on the outfit, or really gender neutral looking backgrounds, on the BOY clothes.

I saw an outfit that one would typically think "gender neutral", but on it there was some words that specifically said, "Mommy's New Man". Which brings me to the next part of my rant. What kind of wimpy, insecure moms are bringing babies into the world that EVERY.SINGLE.STORE has nine million "Mommy's little lover", "I love my mommy", "Mommy Loves Me", "My Mommy Rocks, "Mommy's little rock star", "Mommy's little slugger"..... Oh-Dear-God! I love my kids, don't get me wrong. One or two little outfits that have some sort of cute phrase, ok. But not every single one of them!!! My kid is not a billboard. I do not need affirmation that my two month old loves me, or that I love him. And the ones that confess he's a little slugger, or rock star- what if he hates sports, and music, and loves chemistry or carpentry. Ok, I might be over-reacting, but am I?????? It may be the fact that I was absolutely mortified when we read Oedipus Rex in Middle School, who knows, maybe I'm scarred. I can't bring myself to buy any of them, or understand why some moms (who will remain nameless) have forty three of these different outfits/onesies/bibs.

The baby girls section is so cute.. matching accessories, ruffled butts, everything a mom or baby wants.  Why does the boys section look so blah?? For the other 20% of the clothing that's not overly-confessing-their-undying-love-for-their-mommy, it's "schleppy". You know, pull over cotton pants, over a onesie. Again- not that there's nothing wrong with a few of those outfits for at home, or while running errands, but when I take my kid out, I want him to look good. I want to be proud of the little sockies that match, and the bib he wears, even if he's going to barf on it 10 minutes later. What happened to having pride in your children? There's nothing wrong with that. There are a few outfits I've seen that are "little boy cute".. plaid shorts, polos, etc, but again, not "baby" enough for me.

Now do you understand why I'm having such difficulties finding the perfect take home outfit?????

I've checked Carter's, Macy's, Dillards, Old Navy, Target, WalMart, Babies R Us, & Ross- online and in the store (well, except Carter's because they're over 2 hours away!) and have not found any that were close to "the one".

So I need your help. Marissa thinks that any of you who read this post are going to run away and never come back. I think that you all will feel my pain, or write it off as pregnancy-insanity, and send me some links to outfits you think might fit my very picky requirements.

I will be stalking out this post, so please, please, please feel free to help this momma out!!

Happy August, and 1st Day of our Back to School Bash!

Back to school means so much more than getting the latest and greatest products for our kids. The teens want the latest electronics, and the tweens want some sort of fictional chacacter plus the hottest trends, and the younger ones just want to be cool like the big kids.

Moms.. well, we want the babies to stay babies, the young kids to stay little longer and not be so sassy, the tweens to stop talking back, and the teens to be safe and smart- in everything they do. Or at least that's what I'm told. As a mom of a 7 and 4 year old, this season "Back to School" will bring *me* back to basics..

Back to a routine, back to a schedule, back to the organized chaos which is my life. This year with both of my children in school, I am looking forward to the quiet that will greet me when I come home after dropping them off. Then, I suspect I will get all mushy because my baby is in school, but then, (I hope) I will feel exhilarated. This is my year to take care of me. To take care of my house, and organize it the way I want it. To get my bedroom feeling like the sanctuary it should be for me, and to go back to school to finish my degree. This would be the first time in about 8 years, I'm taking control of my life again. And I deserve it.

So this year, for our Back to School Bash, I decided to do things a little differently. I extended it, for one, and made it a whole month long. Then, I decided that it was going to have a lot more than reviews and giveaways. I want you to come to 4BabyAndMom to find the best Back to School Deals out there, so I started my Under $1 series. I asked some experienced moms and grandmas for their best back to school advice, and many said stuff that had to do with dinner, so I included some food themed reviews, giveaways and recipes exclusively for back to school. And lastly, we lined up many of today's latest and greatest companies to show you some fun, exciting and interesting products you should have this back to school season- around the house, at school, and on the go- for families with kids of all ages!

I really hope you like what we have in store for you. Marissa has been doing a ton of work behind the scenes, and I cannot thank her enough. We make a great team, and are having a blast doing what we do. If you have a product that you would like featured during this event or on 4BabyAndMom in September, please feel free to contact us, as we have very few spaces still available in our line up.

If you are just joining us, grab our button from this post, and make sure you leave a comment so you earn early bird entries into our Back to School Bash giveaways!  (Extra entries will range from 1-5 entries per giveaway!)

Many of our giveaways will be open to residents of USA and Canada, so please be sure to read the print at the bottom of any giveaway. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send us an email at 4BabyAndMom at gmail dot com.

Keep your eyes open a little later tonight for our very first review and giveaway- something I think every home should have! (Which, if you read my blog you'll realize that's a VERY rare thing for me to say!) Happy August!!

Did You Survive? ... Thanksgiving with your family and Black Friday, that is!

Now that you're recuperating from the in-laws, eating way too much food, and waking up uber early to shop until you drop, be prepared for the next best thing online since Cyber Monday--

Hyped 4the Holidays at 4BabyAndMom continues this weekend with great giveaways from PearlParadise.com, and Buzztronics, and then on Monday, Kids Foot Locker!! Make sure you take advantage of the BEN10 extra entries if you enter this contest.

I hosted Thanksgiving at my house for our friends and their four children, my neighbor and her 28 year old son, and my family. My father came over for dessert, and then I crashed. I wasn't going to go Black Friday shopping this year.. but Toys R Us opened at midnight by my house, so my girlfriends and I trekked out at about 10pm, and stood online. When we got there, the line was just around the corner of the building; by 11pm, the line went down to the back of the building, down the parking lot, into the cul-de-sac, up the road, and into the mall parking lot across the street!! It was insane.

I got home this morning at about 7:30-a quarter to 8ish. I don't even know. Needless to say, I'm exhausted and hoping that all of you are feeling just as lazy as I am today and would like to do nothing more than enter our giveaways today! ;o)

I'd love to hear how *YOU* survived Thanksgiving, your family, and the busiest shopping day of the year!

Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks Review and Giveaway!

"All natural, 100% real fruit, organic, no sugar added, 3 servings of fruit in every ounce of Funky Monkey Snacks" are all of the key phrases that caught my attention while searching for healthier snack options for my children.

I found it hard to believe that there really was a snack on the market that was made of *just* fruit that satisfied the urge to crunch. I was truly expecting more of a chewy fruit, like that in trail mix. When we received our samples of Funky Monkey Snacks, I was excited to tote them with us to VBS and to the beach. They never made it to either, because the kids raided the bags completely!

We ended up opening the Bananamon and Purple Funk bags first. The Bananamon is a curious combination of freeze dried bananas and cinnamon. The Purple Funk snacks are organic bananas with acai berries. Although both packages were primarily bananas, they were two totally different experiences!

The next day we opened the Carnaval Mix and the Jivealime bags. The Carnaval Mix contains organic bananas, pineapple, raisins, papaya and apple. It was very sweet and refreshing, and the kids loved the variety of flavors, shapes and colors. The Jivealime snacks are freeze dried organic pineapple slices and pieces, with lime juice. Definitley an interesting combination that I liked a little bit more than the kids did. The kids chose the Bananamon and Carnaval Mix as their favorites, while I preferred the Purple Funk and Jivealime flavors instead.

See Kai Run Review and Giveaway!

The new fall line of See Kai Run is available now, and the new Jaewon sneakers showed up on our doorstep just about a week ago!

Abbie was ecstatic to receive her new shoes, and was super excited to wear her new back to school sockies as well! (Living in Florida, during the summer, we all live in flip flops.)

The last time we reviewed See Kai Run, we got to try the adorable peek toe Jennae shoes, and I was extremely happy with the quality of those shoes. It was my first experience with See Kai Run, and I fell instantaneously in love with their quality products!

The new line of shoes are just as adorable, and just as superbly made. The leather is incredibly soft, with a sturdy, yet flexible sole- perfect for growing feet.

The Jaewon sneaker shoes pictured above are made with mock laces and a velcro closure, which makes putting them on and removing them easy for little hands, without the frustrations of laces.

Preparing for preschool can be difficult enough on our little ones, so this year invest in a beautiful pair of See Kai Run sneakers or shoes for your little man or lady, and make getting out the door easy, fun and fashionable!

Want it?
Visit See Kai Run and receive FREE SHIPPING on all orders from now until 11am PT, on Friday, August 28th.

Tic♥Tac♥Dough Review and Giveaway!

Back to school lists seem to grow every year. This year one of the requested supplies for many preschool and kindergarten classes is playing dough. Playing dough improves fine motor skills, increases imaginative play, and is great for children of all ages.

If you’ve been reading 4BabyAndMom for awhile, you know that I love Etsy sellers. I appreciate a fine product created by hand from parents and skilled crafters. I love creating a buzz about a fun or exciting Etsy company any time I can. (If you missed the ‘a picket fence life’ review, be sure to click HERE & check it out!)

While searching for more traditional back to school products to review and give away during our bash, I happened to stumble upon the Etsy company called Tic♥Tac♥Dough.Tic♥Tac♥Dough was created by a work-at-home mom of two, with natural ingredients, and plenty of love! It is available in two different formulas, including gluten free, and many different scents and colors, which makes play time great for kids of all ages.

Recently, we were able to review a 6oz. tub of Sweet Orange scented Tic♥Tac♥Dough and I can tell you that both of the kids absolutely loved it! (My horrible mommy confession is that even though Abbigaile’s artsy personality would enjoy it, she’s only played with playing dough a handful of times before we received our sample.)

The first day we received our tub of Tic♥Tac♥Dough, Abbie played with it for about two hours straight! She made houses, and people, and flowers. She rolled it, and flattened it, and used the included duck shaped cutter to make “duckies” out of dough. She had such a blast! The next day, Alex got to play too, and the two of them shared the tub very well. I was impressed that the quantity of the dough was enough for both of them to play together very well. There was no bickering over who had more, or who didn’t have enough… and they laughed, giggled, pounded, and rolled together.

Want it?
Visit our friends at Tic♥Tac♥Dough and check out their large selection of colors and packages. Order one tub, or a three month subscription, where you pick the colors, and your child gets one fresh, new tub in the mail every month!

Win it!
Our friends at Tic♥Tac♥Dough have offered one lucky winner their chance to win TWO tubs of playing dough, plus a fun shape cutter!

Fall/Winter Clearance Sale Now at SEARS!

Just in time for the new school year, I found that Sears was much more than an appliance store. I had never really shopped there before (for anything other than the appliances), but I was so excited when a friend of mine took me to shop in their kids department. At Sears, you'll find brand names for babies and children from Carter's, Little Wonders, Dockers and Disney that are offered at the best prices and super adorable. I stocked up on clothes for my son for Back-to-School, and even shopped Sears again for the holidays. The kids looked great in beautiful, quality designer clothes, and my wallet and my husband thanked me.

I love shopping for new tops at Sears. I'm a jeans and tee-shirt kind of girl, but the tops that are available at Sears always add sensible style to my wardrobe. I love being able to wear a pretty top with my jeans, and then throw on heels to go out after a long day home with the kids.

Whether you're looking for something for baby or for yourself, right now Sears is offering 75% - 80% off original prices on Fall and Winter Apparel from now until April 18th. Click Here

One of my mom-girlfriends came over recently and was complaining about the way the economy is, and how she wishes there was a more affordable place to buy clothing that was contemporary, fun, and fresh, without it falling apart in the machine after you wash it the first time. Who hasn't been there? I know I have.. those cute little under $20 stores I used to go to in New York. I'd buy a funky shirt, wear it out, and then wash it the next day, and it would come out of the machine shredded. I'd find myself pulling the pieces out of the machine, understanding why it was only $12.

I didn't think a place like that existed back then, in fact, I thought a place like that would be impossible to find. After the recent conversation with my friend, I thought it would be a fun challenge to find a place that offered fun, stylish stuff for women, that guaranteed quality made items without breaking the bank.

Along my journey, I happened to meet the owner of SWEET BOUTIQUE. From cat print coin purses, to caution tape scarves, and everything in between, Sweet Boutique offers something for every chic mom out there! From funky to fresh, conservative to cool, as you click through the pages of these fashionable items, you won't believe your eyes! You'll find quality, trendy, funky clothing, and accessories, (even jewelry suggestions for the kids!) that are reasonably priced, and easy to order- from a company that has phenomenal customer service and strives to keep your style fresh without sacrificing the quality! Bookmark this company, because their boutique updates weekly to help your style stay current and fresh! Sweet Boutique really makes it easy to splurge on yourself without the feeling of guilt!

I was so impressed by the service and selection (sizes xs-xl) on SWEET BOUTIQUE, and I knew the readers on 4BabyAndMom would love their variety of products, SO... our friends at Sweet Boutique have offered the stylish readers at 4BabyAndMom their chance to win a $35 gift certificate to splurge on themselves!

Eco-Friendly Bamboo Leg Huggers Review & Giveaway!

As a mom of a potty training almost-3-year-old, finding tights that are easy to take on and off has been quite difficult. When I received my Fantastic Fuchsia Leg Huggers in the mail, I knew that things were going to get a whole lot easier!

Abbigaile is a very active toddler, even though sh
e likes twirling her hair and pink frilly things, you can often find her jumping, running, and playing with any ball imaginable. She's a tomboy at heart, and is very rough on her clothes. Most durable clothing is too scratchy, then she breaks out in hives and certain blends give her a rash. With her sensitive skin, and I need to be careful with the materials she comes in contact with. We've never owned anything made of Bamboo fibers, but wow these are soft! When we opened the package she beamed a huge smile, and told me they were her tights. So we put them right on, and we were both in LOVE!

"Oooh mommy, deez are soft!" she said, as she stroked her legs. "And look, iz a HEART! Iz two hearts! And more hearts.. Iz mine hearts on my legs!" as she points out the two hearts on her thighs and the row of hearts around each ankle.

They are super soft and comfortable,
breathable, UV protective, odor resistant, and naturally antibacterial. If that's not good enough, they are made with no chemicals or pesticides, so I can feel comfortable knowing she won't break out with them on her little legs!

They are available in 13 fun and stylish patterns, from Retro Argyle to Popsicle Parade as well as two solid pink shades, for more conservative little ladies.

My husband thinks they're adorable too, (but blushes every time my daughter wants to show her upper hearts off), but after we remind her she's a lady- she giggles and drops the hem of her dress. We've washed them several times already, and I am very happy to say that they wear and wash VERY well- no pills, unraveling or fading; other brands have not withheld the extreme activities of Miss Abbigaile at all! I must say I am definitely impressed with the quality of this product! BUY IT!
Go to the LEG HUGGERS website and pick out your favorite designs and enter the coupon code MOMLEG10 to save 10% off of your purchase now until 3/1/09!

Vista vs. XP, or Go for a Mac?

I really think my computer is dying. It's lived a full, long life, and I am finally ready to part with it. It's been upgraded from a WIN98se to a WIN XP pro twice, and now after three crashes, reformatting several times, buying a ton of components & extras and recently a new hard drive, I realized I could have bought another two computers! Ugh!

Anyway, this year I have been researching different brands of desktops and laptops, as my husband assured me that this tax return we could make an investment in that area- and I CANNOT wait!

Since I was in middle school, my parents, friends, and neighbors have asked me to help them with various computer issues, and frankly- I have no idea why I never went into some sort of fancy computer job. If I had to give a definitive answer to that at this exact second, it's because when you talk to me about RAM, I think you're talking about a Dodge truck. (Yeah, I'm a little bit of a tomboy.) It's the technical words and phrases that spin me in loops, so you can only imagine how it's been researching the next computer or laptop in our lives!

Thankfully, God gave me a husband who knows ALL of the computer technical terms and can help clarify all the differences.. but honestly, to be a fly on the wall at the electronics store would have you in stitches. No matter how many times he explains, I still don't get it!

So tell me readers, what type of a desktop do you own? What type of a laptop do you own? If it's a PC, do you really hate Vista as much as my mother? Which do you prefer, XP or Vista? Pro or Home? What's the difference? For those of you that have a Mac, why do you prefer it over a PC? Tell me more!

Background: We are not huge gamers. Our idea of an exciting game is Roller Coaster Tycoon.. Well, for my son and my husband. I personally only play on Pogo or BigFish. I do a lot of creating on my computer.. basic graphics, buttons, headers, signatures for message boards, personal photos, etc. I have never used my Adobe Photoshop, because my computer would crash if I installed it. I would love the ability (memory? disk space?) to do more. We do not download any movies or watch dvds or webisodes on our computer. I think that's basically it. Thanks in advance for your input, your advice is greatly appreciated!
