SUSPEND! Review and Giveaway Ends 8/22

We love having family together time. Whether it's watching a movie, playing a game, or doing something outside, our family enjoys being together. Every night we eat dinner together- it's the one constant in our home. We make memories. So does Marissa's family.. (did you read this post about her hysterical dinner conversation?)

Back to school often means back to the hustle and bustle of a jam-packed schedule. Making family time is just as important during the school year, and summer- at least for our family.
When we received an opportunity from GummyLump to review the Melissa & Doug game, Suspend, we jumped at the chance.

Of all the games we love to play, puzzle and strategy games are our favorites. We have a popular wooden block game, and this game I would say, is like a modern day, more exciting version. It's also a little bit harder...at first.

They claim that if you try this hanging balance game, you'll be hooked- and it's true! SUSPEND is a family game of tricky hangs and steady hands. It comes with 24 notched, rubber-tipped wire pieces to hang from a tabletop stand.

Sound easy? Try adding another piece! Each time a bar is added, the balance shifts, the difficulty changes and the incredible midair sculpture transforms. This tricky game for 1-4 players is a test of steady nerves and steady hands. It's geared for ages 8 and up.

That being said, the first time we took it out my 9 year old, 6 year old and I set up the game, couldn't get any of the bars to balance, and put it away frustrated. We did not read the instructions, we figured we'd wing it- it couldn't be that difficult... oh, but it was!

Later, my friends came over for ladies night, and I brought out the game. The four of us sat around the table, reading the directions, and started playing. It was HYSTERICAL! We've played it multiple times now, and it's always a great time.

I took what I learned and taught the kids the next day. Since then, they've played it almost every other day! Now that we know how to play it, and have done so successfully, we think it's easy.. but we love laughing everytime we make the bars fall.

It's so interesting seeing the way their minds work; Alex is logistical, and structurally sound in his placement, Abbie is more artistic and whimsical. They both prefer to play the "Intermediate" version, by rolling the dice to see which color to hang next.

Every game is "new", and it doesn't lose its appeal very easily, at all. If you like brain games, puzzles, strategy games, or just challenging games, definitely give this one a chance.

This game, as well as other Melissa & Doug toys can be found online at GummyLump.com, and is currently priced at $13.59. There are several sales and special promotions there, as well, including a "Buy Three, Get the Fourth Free" on Melissa & Doug wooden play food, Free UPS shipping on orders over $60, and the Biggest Sale Ever- with savings up to 50%!

Our friends at GummyLump have offered one of our readers their chance to win a SUSPEND game for their family!

Walmart + P&G "Field of Vision" Family Movie Night

Having children from 5 to 11, finding a family movie that suits all of our needs is always a daunting task. The girls like cartoon ones, while the boys think that's too babyish, (but secretly enjoy them); they prefer the action movies, and the girls usually don't like it. We usually settle on a "boys movie tonight, girls movie on Friday" type deal.

Not too long ago we had the privilege to review "Truth Be Told," a movie collaborated with families in mind from two very family friendly companies- Walmart and P&G. Well, this month they've made magic again and allowed us to preview their new movie, "Field of Vision".

Through mysterious footage captured on an old malfunctioning video camera, Sinclair High School's star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying Cory Walker, a troubled new transfer student.  Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost the school the state championship, Tyler must choose what's more important: winning or doing what's right.

The premier of "FIELD OF VISION" is on Saturday,June 11 on NBC at 8pm ET/7pm CT. To watch the trailer and see if this might be something you and your family could enjoy, click on the widget below.

Looks good, huh? Thanks to our friends at Mom Central, Walmart, and P&G, we were able to preview this movie earlier this week. The reviews are back, and we loved it. Abbie liked the horses and the magic camera (video camera), but the story line was a little over her head. She was still attentive through it, but I would definitely recommend this film for elementary school aged kids and up. Everyone else really seemed to like it! Alex recognized the bad behavior the bully was presenting, which opened us up to a whole conversation about bullying. Unfortunately, this is something we have been very familiar with recently. My husband and I thought the movie was a little predictable, but overall, the kids had fun putting together the puzzle pieces as the story unraveled, and we truly enjoyed spending time with the kids while watching "Field of Vision".

So set the DVR, or make sure you're home with some popcorn and drinks, and get ready for another family movie night. Learn more about this great film and the cooperative effort to put more wholesome family films on prime time by visiting the Family Film Night Facebook page.

Are you planning on watching? Who are you going to watch it with? Share your opinions on Family Movie Nights hosted by Walmart and P&G.

“I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of P&G and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.” As always, these opinions are strictly ours. We hope you enjoy the film as much as we did.

Kmart Camping Guide Gets you ready for a Summer Staycation! + Giveaway

Back in June, I mentioned how my kids and I are trying to find things to do to keep busy this summer in our yard. A couple of years ago, we (and by we I mean my husband) tried taking my son camping in our backyard. It was before we had a fence, and I was paranoid that he would wake up, or go sleepwalking and my husband would sleep right through it. Alex fell asleep back there, but then we brought him in, and he woke up inside. This past April, we (and by we I mean *I*) actually took the kids camping for a whole weekend at a campground at one of our local parks.  They had a blast, and I actually enjoyed myself as well.

As much as I thought I was prepared for our two night outing, I realized just how much stuff we were missing after just a couple of hours. We rented a cabin, so I wasn't entirely roughing it with the kids, but one of the major things that I totally forgot to pack was a lantern of some sort. Not only did I forget a lantern, but I forgot extra batteries for the wimpy flashlight that I had. Thankfully the bathroom building had lights on it, and we were fairly close, but still- it is something that I made sure I would not forget for the next time.

This summer, Kmart has put together and online camping guide to ensure that on your camping trip you have everything you need. Run down the stuff you've packed with their essentials checklist, read tips on camping do's and don'ts, and get ideas for games and entertainment while you are roughing it.

Not only that, but through out the rest of July, some of Kmart's best selling camping gear and accessories are on sale. Right now you can take advantage of the Coleman Canyon Ranch Tent  on sale for just $239! This tent has a 7.5' center height, can be sectioned off into three separate sleeping quarters (which fit up to three queen sized air beds), is guaranteed to keep you dry, and has a built in LED lighting system.

You can also find this great Stars and Stripes Chair (orig. $13.99) on sale for $11.99. I love these chairs for more than camping. We take them along with us to the beach, fishing, to the parades, and best of all to the kids soccer and baseball games.

We usually have two in the minivan, and if it's not, it's always easily accessible. They take only seconds to set up and take down, which makes it a perfect product for families on the go.

Another great item that you'll see on sale is the E-Z Up Jamboree 10ft x 10ft Canopy. Great for camping, for parties and more, this canopy offers a polyester top has a silver coating that blocks 99% of harmful UV rays, easy to use pull pin sliders, 100sq. ft. of shade, and adjustable legs that go to three different heights.

Visit Kmart’s helpful camping resources at http://www.Kmart.com/camping. As an added treat, Kmart is offering an additional 15% off all adult and kids Coleman sleeping bags for online purchases only at http://www.kmart.com from now until 7/24! Just use the promo code is FITFACEBK610.

Our new friends at Kmart have offered one lucky reader their chance to win a Coleman 2-Mantle QuickPack™ Lantern, so they are never in the situation I was the last time I went camping! This propane lantern comes ready to use, just add propane and light. The unique protective cover (included) doubles as the lanterns packaging to reduce environmental impact. The collar of lantern nests into base of lantern for stability. It provides 7 hours of light on high, and about 13.8 hours on low.

CONGRATULATIONS!
