Save Water-Feel Pretty. WaterPik EcoFlow ShowerHead Giveaway+Review Ends 5/6

I try to be green. I use some "green" cleaning supplies, and use microfiber cloths to clean with; I've even experimented with making my own baby wipes. I reuse certain containers, and try to get artsy-craftsy with others, but I really don't consider myself a "green-mama".

One of the things we've been trying to cut back on is wasting electric and water. Honestly, a lot of that had to do with my husband losing his job in November, but since he's been working again, I'm still flitting around, turning things off, or reminding the kids to shut off the water. But I have a confession to make.

I love to feel pampered when I take my shower. Really pampered. It's the only time I really have for myself anymore, and enjoy just disappearing into the nice warm water, as it washes away my cares for the few minutes I allow myself to just relax.

I have two bathrooms in my house- one has a rain shower head, and no pressure regulator. It's awesome for the days where I just need the stress to be beat out of me. It's also positioned at a higher point, and being 5'10'', it's usually my preferred choice, because I don't have to duck to wash my hair. My other bathroom (the master bathroom) had this horrible stock shower head, but when the valves and pipes and stuff were put in, they added a water pressure regulator of some sort. I'll admit, I'm totally clueless with the technical name of what it is, but I know that it basically is installed so we have less of a chance to waste water, and that the pressure is a little less than the other bathroom. I like the pressure of this bathroom better, but when I stood in the shower with the old fashioned shower head, the highest I could position it towards was at my chin. It obviously was NOT very good for washing my super thick, curly hair efficiently.

I started researching new shower heads; I researched different ones with bars that I could position higher, and handheld ones, which would make my life easier so I could shave my legs 9 months pregnant, or help Babs really wash her hair completely. Plus, a handheld would help me wash my tub more efficiently. (I hate washing the tub.. I love being able to spray it, walk away, come back and hose it down.) I also checked out regular mounted ones, and really decided I missed having multiple settings- the massage setting is so luxurious sometimes.

I had my search narrowed down to a few different shower heads, one on a re-positionable arm and a smaller handheld one, and and WaterPik one that was just a handheld were my two top choices. The only concern I had about the one with the re-positionable arm was that it would take up half of my stupid shower by the time it was fully installed. Then, I was given the opportunity to review the Waterpik EcoFlow shower head that was already on my list, so I jumped at it!

I had seen some very mixed reviews online for this particular shower head. Most of them dated back to 2010, and any more current reviews seemed much more pleasant, but I was still nervous. Would it  leak? Did it look cheap? Would I hate it?

When the package arrived, the shower head looked like something I would definitely buy should I have physically been in a store shopping for it. It did not look "cheap" in any way, shape, or form. It does look stainless, although it is just chrome finished. I was a little concerned with keeping it clean, but so far, so good.

Brian installed our new shower head in less than ten minutes. The two sides of the hose are clearly labeled, so you screw it onto the right end (the handheld device or the mount). As long as you read the label, and hook the right ends up, there are no leaks. (The ten minutes included removing the hose, and re-securing it the right way, because he didn't read it the first time!)

It has a water volume control on the bottom part of the handle, that you can turn to switch the water pressure down to conserve water. This is great for times where you are deep conditioning your hair or shaving your legs... at least that's what I've used it for, just so I don't have to turn the water off and then back on again.

It makes me feel more eco-conscious, but still allows me to feel pampered and allows the water to stay warm. The EcoFlow shower head packaging says that it saves 1 gallon of water per minute and up to $100 annually (based on only two ten-minute showers a day). Considering the fact that I have four people in my household that take more than ten minute showers, plus a baby on the way, I'm hoping that it really does save us some cash!

There are five settings on the shower head itself: full body (similar to rain), circular massage (pulsates from the middle), power spray (I use this to clean the tub), circular massage + mist (I don't really use this one), and the misting spray (my kids LOVE this setting and I love it for shaving).

Until tonight, the National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation has been encouraging people all over the country to take a pledge to conserve more water and be more eco-friendly around their homes. If you use your zipcode and take the pledge, you can see where you're area ranks in standings, as well as be entered to win prizes.

If you're in the market for a good, quality, eco- conscious, shower head, I definitely would recommend giving this one a try. The Waterpik ECO EcoFlow Handheld Shower Head in Chrome is available online at Amazon, or at retail locations that sell WaterPik products like Lowe's, or straight through the WaterPik EcoFlow online store.

Our friends at MomSelect and WaterPik have offered one of our readers their chance to WIN a WaterPik EcoFlow shower head as part of a promotional program with MomSelect. The retail value of this shower head is approximately $52!

Pampers Trip to London 2012 Olympic Sweepstakes + Pampers Diapers and Wipes Giveaway! Ends 4/30

I've always dreamed of going to the Olympics, since the first time I watched a figure skating competition live on TV as a child. Fascinated with the pride, the honor, the skill and the athletes as a whole, I was instantly hooked. Once upon a time, I even thought I would be a famous Olympian- but not figure skating- because I had the coordination of a rock!

As I got older, I realized that sports were not as spectacular in my life as painting, teaching, and all of the other strengths in my life... but I married an amazing man, who agreed one day we would make the trek and enjoy the Olympics together. Then we had kids. I love being a mom most of all, and I think that being a mom should *almost* qualify for an Olympic event- it sure takes a ton of hard work and dedication!!

Pampers is set to celebrate London 2012 Olympic Games Partnership with Facebook Sweepstakes and more! Starting April 16th through May 19th, you can join Pampers TeamUSA Sweepstakes and get a chance to Win a trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games!

The grand prize winner wins a trip for a family of four to attend the London 2012 Olympic Games and attend the first ever Pampers Playground event alongside Team USA Hopeful, Kerri Walsh, her husband and her sons. The recipient of the grand prize trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games will be drawn on or around May 21st.

Pampers will also be randomly selecting weekly winners between now and August 12 to receive a prize pack consisting of one month’s supply of Pampers Limited Edition “USA” diapers and wipes as well as a souvenir volleyball signed by Kerri Walsh!

Click here to enter the sweeps. Also in celebration of this huge event, Pampers has launched their super cute Limited Edition “USA” themed diapers and wipes which combine utility and aesthetics, so little ones can explore and conquer their world through play, while also showing team pride during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The diapers feature an adorable “USA” logo print combined with red, white and blue stars and stripe designs while the wipes packaging pays tribute to Team USA with a similar design. Pampers Limited Edition “USA” diapers and wipes designs will be available in mid-April while supplies last at select stores nationwide. The diapers are available in Cruisers sizes 3 through 5.

In addition to the ‘Team USA Sweeps’ on Facebook, those wishing to celebrate the spirit of play at home are also encouraged to visit the Pampers Playground starting April 16th, a newly launched interactive platform on the Pampers website encouraging parents and caretakers to share all the ways babies love to play. Within the Pampers Playground, there are three sections for parents and little ones to explore together:
  • The Picnic Table gives parents the chance to upload and share photos and videos of all of the different ways their baby likes to play.
  • The Toy Box provides visitors with fun tools and games to help baby play each and every day including an interactive and original storybook.
  • The Park Bench offers articles detailing the importance of play for little ones.
But it doesn’t stop there. P+G – the parent company of Pampers – will showcase their heartfelt “Thank you, Mom” campaign at the London 2012 Olympic Games recognizing the incredible role that mothers play in the lives of their children. As part of this of this inspiring campaign, P+G plans to raise $5 million to help establish and sustain youth sport programs around the world. A portion of sales and donations for the company’s leadership brands including Pampers®, Tide®, Gillette®, and Pantene®, will help those who moms care about the most… children.

Our friends at Pampers are offering one lucky reader their chance to WIN an economy box of Pampers in size 5 (MSRP $50) and one Pampers Wipes (MSRP $3.99)!!

Playtex Baby- What to Expect Facebook Contest! Daily Prizes and more!

This week kicked off a fabulous new "What to Expect When You're Expecting" contest on the Playtex Baby Facebook page! Playtex is asking you to share What You Didn’t Expect during pregnancy or as a new parent along with any clever situations to those tricky situations – in 150 words or less. And include a fun photo to capture the moment!

The contest celebrates Playtex Baby’s partnership with the blockbuster film “What To Expect When You’re Expecting,” due in theaters May 18! The film will feature Playtex Baby products including the Playtex Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners and the Playtex Diaper Genie Disposal System. (I LOVED my Diaper Genie!!)

Daily prizes will be distributed throughout the two-week contest, and at the end of the month, seven finalists will be chosen for the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to LA for the big screen premiere of “What To Expect When You’re Expecting!” You get to vote for the winner at the Playtex Baby Facebook Page. I've already entered, and shared the page on our wall. Good luck to everyone!

I entered already, as there was a ton of stuff that I had no idea happened during pregnancy, delivery, and even nine years (and counting!) later. My husbands greatest (worst??!!) what-he-didn't-expect was very simple- an episiotomy. Never in the 12 years we've been together, have I ever seen my husband come close to fainting... except then.

What were some of the things that you didn't expect, while you were pregnant, having your bundle of joy, adopting your little sweetheart, or after you became a parent??? What's one thing you would share with a new mom that you wish someone shared with you?

With our baby #3 about to make his appearance, I'm still freaking out a little, because I don't even believe I'm pregnant yet- nevermind about to give birth!!! It all feels so surreal! I personally can't wait to see the movie this May, because I barely survived my first pregnancy without the What to Expect book. The movie is packed with superstars, and seems to cater to both expectant parents.. and contains some really funny parts that are soooo true, but most parents would NEVER admit.

Check out the preview here:

PS... the pic in the top left is of me when I was about 7 months pregnant with Abbie. :)

Shutterfly Gifts for Moms, Dads + Grads!

I love Shutterfly. In fact, if you search this blog for "Shutterfly" posts, you'll see that on more than one occasion I admitted that if they crashed, my world would end as I knew it. Not only do they have pages of albums from the last 9 years of my life- but within the thumbnails of pictures are a ton of irreplaceable pictures of family moments (like our wedding, our children's birth, birthdays, etc) and pictures of family who are no longer with us. I, literally, would die if my Shutterfly account died.

Through the years, I've ordered my fair share of Shutterfly products. From mouse pads to 12x12 digital photo books, to prints, announcements, cards, and calendars- Shutterfly has something for everyone on your gift list.

With Mother's Day just around the corner, (May 13th!), I encourage you to check out their new iPhone cases, fully customizable- perfect for the tech savvy mom or grandma! If your mom is like mine, she may appreciate the super classic personalized photo mugs or blanket, instead.

While you're shopping, don't forget Dad's and Grads. Shutterfly has many options that are perfect for them, too, from personalized stationary, to desktop plaques, to the iPhone case, or mouse pad! Father's Day is June 17th, and will be here before you know it!

I love sending personalized photo cards to my father in law on Father's Day. I always think it means more than some stock card from a store. Plus, when we do travel 1500 miles north to visit, the kids LOVE seeing their cards around his house!

I think this year, I'd love to receive a photo blanket or a canvas print. Our new little bundle will be here by then, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed the husband will take the hints I've been dropping. One of our readers mentioned on our Facebook page that they have a photo blanket, and they LOVE it! It's made of soft fleece, and she loves seeing her boys while she's watching TV at night! (Thanks Roxanne!)

So- what are you waiting for?! Head over to Shutterfly to view their large selection of photo gifts. While you're there, be sure to take advantage of their current promotion. Get free shipping when you spend $30 or more by using the coupon code: SHIP30 at the check out.

Follow Shutterfly on Facebook or Twitter for current promotions, special offers, and great gift ideas. If you're on Pinterest, I just found them there, too!

Do you love Shutterfly as much as I do? What are some of your favorite products??

Trix Yogurt Giveaway and Review! Ends 4/13

Is spring break over yet? Not that I don't enjoy my children's presence here.  . . all week; but they have decided to make a point of eating everything I have in the pantry and fridge just to prove that they are growing.

How are you moms faring? Have you been browsing through Pinterest looking for craft ideas for the kidoodles too? I made the mistake of going through the recipe section--stay away if you know what is good for you!! I have been baking so many sweets that I'm waiting for gumdrops to pop out of my roof! Because of that, and the after-the-holidays-spare-tire that I have been kicking around, I have been attempting to buy healthier snacks for the little monsters: pickles, fruit, veggy sticks.  One snack I have kept overstocked lately has been yogurt.

For the longest time I have steered far and wide from the "kid" yogurts in the dairy sections. You know the ones with cartoon characters on front waving--filled with sugar, artificial sweeteners and artificial coloring. The squirts complained and whined every time we saw them, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy them. I was really glad to receive and e-mail and opportunity from Yoplait Trix Yogurt.

Yoplait decided that their gloriously colorful Trix yogurt needed to be reformulated with those healthier concerns in mind. They have removed artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, and high fructose corn syrup, but only you will know the difference! They sent us a really cool pack filled with some great Yoplait Trix gear as well as a coupon to try the new and improved Trix yogurt.  My kids never ate the old formula, but they really enjoyed the samples we brought home! They loved the colors and taste. I will admit to eating one as well, and I did enjoy it!! So we have continued to buy it because it is loaded with good stuff like calcium and vitamin D.

The new improved Trix Yogurt is available in 4-cup packs, with two natural color combinations that can be swirled or eaten at once in every cup, kids can choose from five flavors: Strawberry Punch, Strawberry Banana Bash (this is the one we sampled) , Raspberry Rainbow, Triple Cherry, and Cotton Candy. My kids loved the Strawberry Banana Bash and the Strawberry Punch. They have been on the lookout for the very elusive Cotton Candy pack.

Yoplait also wanted to do something for you guys too! They are giving away another VIP Prize pack to one of you! This comes with all of the kid-essentials:
  •  (1) VIP coupon for a free 4-pack of Yoplait Trix yogurt for kids
  • Yoplait branded items including an insulated lunch tote, ice pack, backpack, folder, zippered pencil pouch, pencils, erasers, and pencil sharpener
So how do you win? Easy. Just answer one of these two questions below and we will choose one lucky winner for the pack J
How do your kids like to eat their Trix yogurt? What time of the day do your kids enjoy their Yoplait Trix yogurt?

Baby Boy Take Home Outfit- NEED YOUR HELP! Pregnancy Vent...

Baby clothes are flipping adorable. Super snuggly, soft, and atrociously adorable. It's been six years since I had to really shop for baby items, more specifically, clothes.
I'm really having a hard time with this. I vented to my friends the other day, and they all almost died with my stories of shopping, and recommended I shared it with you all- and maybe someone, somewhere on the world-wide-web, can help this hormonal, preggy mommy out.

When Alex was born, Carter's was "IT". Nine years ago, they had this super cute line of duckies, the John Lennon collection, and this snuggly little puppy dog. He received a plethora of ducky outfits (all very boy, blue backgrounds, or more "masculine" looking), and several doggy outfits. I purchased his "take home outfit" from Carter's and fell in love. It was this adorable blue/blue-green colored cotton, long legged bib-overalls, with a long sleeve onesie, and the Carter's puppy was on the chest. It had a matching hat, and I even got the matching bib and booties (which I believe had puppies, too... I really need to hunt down my album and upload a pic..). I digress...

He looked adorable! 100% boy, but sweet, cute, handsome baby boy.

Abbie was born three years later, and we dressed her like a porcelain doll. She really did look like a doll. Her hat was a little too big, so it gave her a "southern belle" dolly look, but it totally fit my first Florida-born kid.

Now, here we go again, and I have started my quest for a take home outfit that is uniquely him. I'm finding out that moms of "this generation" are either really into the "metro-baby" idea, or wickedly insecure. Either way, I'm not into it. I might get some slack for this, but hear me out.

Alex was a bald, big eyed baby boy. I dressed him in reds, blues and grass green- with dinosaurs, cars, trucks and trains, and I still had people tell me how beautiful "she" was.  Abbie wore nothing but dresses, 99.9% of her first three years. I STILL had people tell me how cute "he" was. Maybe I have a complex, but this time around, I'm having a really hard time buying outfits that have salmon colored stripes on the outfit, or really gender neutral looking backgrounds, on the BOY clothes.

I saw an outfit that one would typically think "gender neutral", but on it there was some words that specifically said, "Mommy's New Man". Which brings me to the next part of my rant. What kind of wimpy, insecure moms are bringing babies into the world that EVERY.SINGLE.STORE has nine million "Mommy's little lover", "I love my mommy", "Mommy Loves Me", "My Mommy Rocks, "Mommy's little rock star", "Mommy's little slugger"..... Oh-Dear-God! I love my kids, don't get me wrong. One or two little outfits that have some sort of cute phrase, ok. But not every single one of them!!! My kid is not a billboard. I do not need affirmation that my two month old loves me, or that I love him. And the ones that confess he's a little slugger, or rock star- what if he hates sports, and music, and loves chemistry or carpentry. Ok, I might be over-reacting, but am I?????? It may be the fact that I was absolutely mortified when we read Oedipus Rex in Middle School, who knows, maybe I'm scarred. I can't bring myself to buy any of them, or understand why some moms (who will remain nameless) have forty three of these different outfits/onesies/bibs.

The baby girls section is so cute.. matching accessories, ruffled butts, everything a mom or baby wants.  Why does the boys section look so blah?? For the other 20% of the clothing that's not overly-confessing-their-undying-love-for-their-mommy, it's "schleppy". You know, pull over cotton pants, over a onesie. Again- not that there's nothing wrong with a few of those outfits for at home, or while running errands, but when I take my kid out, I want him to look good. I want to be proud of the little sockies that match, and the bib he wears, even if he's going to barf on it 10 minutes later. What happened to having pride in your children? There's nothing wrong with that. There are a few outfits I've seen that are "little boy cute".. plaid shorts, polos, etc, but again, not "baby" enough for me.

Now do you understand why I'm having such difficulties finding the perfect take home outfit?????

I've checked Carter's, Macy's, Dillards, Old Navy, Target, WalMart, Babies R Us, & Ross- online and in the store (well, except Carter's because they're over 2 hours away!) and have not found any that were close to "the one".

So I need your help. Marissa thinks that any of you who read this post are going to run away and never come back. I think that you all will feel my pain, or write it off as pregnancy-insanity, and send me some links to outfits you think might fit my very picky requirements.

I will be stalking out this post, so please, please, please feel free to help this momma out!!
