Happy National French Fry Day!

Did you know tomorrow was National French Fry Day? Here's some food for thought..

In honor of National French Fry Day -July 13- Wendy’s examined the growing phenomenon of dipsters, those who dip their fries into a Wendy’s Frosty.

The combination of the sweet cold Wendy’s Frosty and sea salt hot French fries trend is on the rise—in fact, a recent national survey revealed that 1 in 3 Americans (33%) have dipped a French fry into a Wendy’s Frosty. And more than 263,000 people online are talking about this!

The survey also found:

· Dipsters are typically young and hip! Two times as many 18 – 34-year-olds dip their French fries in a Wendy’s Frosty versus 45 – 64-year-olds.

· Families have jumped on the dipster wagon—nearly one of every two families (47%) have plunged their fry into a Frosty.

· Women are as likely to dip their fry into a Wendy’s Frosty as more traditional condiments like mustard, while 18 – 24-year-olds are more than twice as likely to dip their fry into a Wendy’s Frosty versus mustard, mayo or vinegar.

What do you dip your fries in??? Alex likes to dip his fries in his frosty, but I much rather regular ol' ketchup! Happy National French Fry Day!

Got Milk? It does a body good!

More than 1,000 moms reported that fruit drinks and slushies were their children's top summertime drinks. With 84% of Moms looking for healthy beverage alternatives, it's even more important to creatively incorporate milk into meals and snack times. An eight-ounce serving of milk costs less than 25 cents on a gallon basis. Plus, milk provides more nutrients per penny than almost any other beverage option in the supermarket. Natural, healthy, refreshing- what could be better than this?

Our favorite milk based beverage is always chocolate milk, but I love relaxing with a refreshing fruit smoothie on a warm summer evening. The kids enjoy making 5 minute ice cream in a bag the most!

This summer, head over to whymilk.com for healthy tips, recipes and snack ideas to get your kids excited about drinking their milk during summer and through out the whole year!

For now, I hope you enjoy this quick and easy 5 Minute Ice Cream in a Bag Recipe! The recipe below creates one single serving of creamy deliciousness!

What you'll need:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or half & half
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 tablespoons coarse salt
  • 1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
  • 1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
  • Ice cubes

How to make it:

  1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the coarse salt. Seal the bag.
  2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
  3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
  4. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
  5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. (I wipe it off, then fold the top over to avoid salt transfer.) Enjoy!
What are your favorite milk based snacks and refreshments?

Mix My Granola Review and Giveaway!

Getting healthier has been a goal of mine for this year, and I've been making subtle steps to achieve that goal since January. I started walking more, I started buying healthier snacks, and trying out new healthier recipes. I'm a snacker. I get hungry mid day, and almonds.. well, just aren't cutting it. My kids aren't exposed to a lot of sugary snacks, but they sure know what they are. Any time we go past a brightly colored box, they cry out that they want it, and now that my 6 year old knows how to read he even tells me what it is.

Granola needs to be "done" good, for granola to taste good, I don't care what anyone says. Granola that is too sweet and laced with sugar that doesn't need to be there, isn't any good and the funky, bland, stale granola that most supermarkets sell seem just as appetizing as the shipping container it arrived in. During my quest for healthier snacks, I happened to find MIX MY GRANOLA, a website that lets you create your own fresh and delicious granola and all of its components. If you have a sweet tooth, you can add anything from dried fruit to tiramisu caramel. If you're more of the crunchy, salty snacker, you'll find exactly what you like in their large selection of nuts and seeds.

As you click through the options at MIX MY GRANOLA, on the sidebar it keeps a running tally of how much your personalized selection is costing you, but more importantly, the nutrition calculator keeps track of the info on the label of your product. This tool is great for anyone who is a label reader, has fat, salt or sugar restrictions on their diets, or is just curious about what they are putting into their body.

Everything about this company is unique, including the container it arrives in. The recycleable white cylinder holds 16 ounces of your personalized mixture, the labels are printed with soy based ink, & your customized title and nutrition facts are on the side along with the mix ID number. After your friends try it, (or you start running low), all you need is the Mix ID number to reorder the product. Shipping on this item is extremely quick, and by the time you get it the flavors and freshness feels like it was hand delivered from their kitchen to yours!

We ordered a granola mix with fruits I knew my kids would eat, organic granola, and sunflower seeds. I wasn't sure how the kids would like it but, oh-my-goodness! They inhaled the granola mix like it was their last meal! It took Alex a little while for him to warm up to the loose granola, but in the end he was a very big fan of the entire mix! Abbie loved it too, but mostly picked out the granola and berries. (Apparently, she's not a fan of sunflower seeds.) Brian hesitated eating any of my "health food" but after his first hand full, I had to pry the can out of his hands!

I even tried it with milk in the morning, and it was such a different breakfast. After that morning, I had to send the kids to time out at least three times for trying to sneak the can out of the pantry, and even yelled at Bri to back away from *my* granola a couple of times. I seriously loved this unique, healthy, fresh granola mix, and I cannot rave enough about it!

Check this product out! Löopa Bowl @ Go Graham Go!

As a newbie blogger, I have been surfing the web today looking for what types of products other bloggers are talking about. To the right, I have a button for GO GRAHAM GO! and have participated in several contests and read some great reviews, and today I happened to stumble upon this review and giveaway for a Löopa Bowl.

Although it looks like something from out of space, this bowl is made to withstand the abuse toddlers dish out on their snack bowls or plates. Solid foods will not spill, no matter how they flip, turn, run, or sit with it. The weighted bottom allows for the inner bowl to turn in a full 360 degree sphere of safety, and
Voila!- cheerios and goldfish all over the living room floor are a thing of the past!

With it's awesome price point, (about $7.99 at Bed, Bath & Beyond), this product is DEFINITELY on my list of must haves for parents of Toddlers.. heck, I think I might even get one for my almost 6 year old! Amazing! Bravo to Brad and Melinda Shepherd for creating the one and only Löopa bowl and thank you to Felicia, from Go Graham Go! for introducing me to this incredible product!

Click here to see the Löopa bowl in action, and for your chance to win one!
Giveaway closes January 2nd, 2009
