Just a Halloween Reminder:

Our Pumpkins ~ Halloween 2012
I did not write this, but it needs to be shared, so I figured I would:

Tonight a lot of creatures will visit your door. Be open minded.

The child who is grabbing more than one piece of candy might have poor fine motor skills.

The child who takes forever to pick out one piece of candy might have motor planning issues.

The child who does not say “trick or treat” or “thank you” might be painfully shy, non-verbal, or selectively mute.

If you cannot understand their words, they may struggle with developmental speech.

The child who looks disappointed when he sees your bowl might have an allergy.

The child who isn’t wearing a costume at all or criticizes your decorations might have sensory processing disorder or autism.

Be kind, be patient, smile, pretend you understand. It’s everyone’s Halloween.

And if you live in an area that might have been affected by Sandy..

Please remember that Children do not understand the devastation that Sandy has created. Remember that today is still Halloween for them. If a child should come trick-or-treating at your door, please put your own frustrations aside. They are children and still innocent, embrace them. They might be looking for something fun to get their minds off of all of the horrible events that Sandy brought with her.

Most importantly, be safe!
Happy Halloween everybody!

Labyrinth Balance Board Review and Giveaway!

I remember being about my son's age and playing with this wooden labyrinth game. It was challenging, and fun, and frustrating.. you used these knobs on the side of the box to change the position of the platform. The marble couldn't fall through the hole, or you were out.

With the holiday shopping season rapidly approaching, I felt very sad that there were not very many selections out there for kids today. When I was contacted to review this product, I was super excited to see how my children would react.

Made with old school beliefs of quality instead of quantity, this "Made in the USA" wooden Labyrinth Balance Board is a must have in every household this holiday season.

Whether you choose the Jr size (for ages 3-5) or regular size, (Kindergarten +) this balance board is sure to delight children of every age.

It comes with multiple balls, so that it holds your child's attention and the difficulty level is up to them.

Alex is gifted, and one of the things I've learned and accepted is that most toys don't hold his attention very long.

When we received this product in the mail, as soon as I took it out, Alex wanted to play with it. He did it the "easy way" in just a couple of seconds. He continued to play with it, balancing and guiding the balls forwards and backwards through all of the turns of the labyrinth.

He literally played with the Labyrinth Balance board for over an hour that first day, and since has played with it several times each week. Something he rarely does with other toys.

Alex wanted to demonstrate the Balance Board in action, so please feel free to watch this brief clip on YouTube.

Made in the USA of durable plywood with a non slip coating, the Labyrinth is a great activity for both individuals and groups alike. Players use their weight and body movements to navigate colored balls through the maze. It's not as easy as it looks.. in fact, I even tried to use the balance board and although the balls made it through the maze, it was no where near as quickly as Alex made it through. To make it even more interesting, time each player and compete to esee who can complete the labyrinth quickest.

Kellogg's Froot Loops and Apple Jacks Now With Fiber!

Did you know that 9 out of 10 children don't get enough fiber in their diets? Kellogg Company knows how tough of a time Moms have finding ways to increase their child's intake, and they came up with a great solution by adding a boost of fiber to some of their most popular kids' cereals. These cereals include ingredients such as whole-grain corn flour, whole-grain oat flour, oat fiber and soluble corn fiber, which means there are 3 grams of fiber in every serving. In addition, Kellogg Company plans to extend the added fiber benefits to their other cereal lines over the next year.

Why Fiber is important?
Fiber is only found in foods that come from plants. You won't find any fiber in other types of food such as meat, fish or dairy products. Eating foods high in fiber help you feel full longer, and plays an important role in keeping our body and minds healthy and with processing your food. Studies show that fiber helps with constipation, bowel problems, high cholesterol, weight loss and high blood sugar. You can read more about the importance of fiber at http://www.kelloggsnutrition.com/.

The idea of having fiber in popular cereals such as Apple Jacks and Froot Loops at first scared me. My mother had suggested buying more fiber rich cereals for them prior to this opportunity to try the new Kellogg's line.. but frankly, I thought that if the kids went from normal cereals to fiber-rich cereals that they would have to go to the bathroom more, or may have stomach issues they normally didn't have. The real test was going to be whether it would help my grazing-children stay fuller longer, and if there would be any drastic changes in their bodies.

I decided it was worth a try.

We received our boxes of Froot Loops and Apple Jacks, and I decided the best bet was to try them as snacks first. My policy on 'sugary' cereals is that it is strictly as a snack on school days, but acceptable on weekends- for my kids. I, on the other hand, enjoy regular Apple Jacks quite frequently. The kids loved it.. I suspected they would, but was eager to see how it affected them through the day. I ate my bowl of cereal, and felt much more satisfied than I would eating "regular" Apple Jacks. That fact alone was worth the most to me.

We've compared both types of cereal with and without fiber, and I can honestly tell you that there were no weird after taste, and nobody in our family could tell the difference between them both. I even tried asking my husband which bowl he thought had the ones with fiber, and he had no clue!

Want it?
Visit your local supermarket and look for the fiber badge on Froot Loops and Apple Jacks. If your supermarket doesn't carry them yet, be sure to ask for them by name.

So the final verdict is that we'd definitely buy either of these cereals as snacks or special weekend breakfast for our family again, and the next time that I want to indulge in Apple Jacks, the fiber line will be the one that I add to my shopping cart.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Kellogg’s and received boxes of Froot Loops and Apple Jacks and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate. These opinions are strictly those of Lauren @ 4BabyAndMom and your opinions may differ.

IBW-Books Review and Giveaway!

Early literacy is the key to success. You will hear me say this many times over the course of a year, especially when I find a great book, program, or activity that encourages children to read, and have fun while reading.

Recently, 4BabyAndMom was given the opportunity to review IBW-Books. Over the summer, my goal was to help Alex with writing. He has such an inventive imagination, but hates to write. He can write, but as a gifted child, he gets very frustrated because he can read these enormous words but when he writes and mis-spells a word, doesn't want to complete the task at hand because he knows it's just not right.

Interactive Book Webscenes
allow for children, parents and teachers to explore and expand the lesson beyond the words of the book. I personally feel that IBW books would be great assets for home-school moms, and a great tool to encourage creative writing. For our family, that was exactly what I used the IBW books we received with Alex for.

At one particular webscene, a little lost bee meets a bear on a bike, we stopped reading the book and I asked him to brainstorm and tell me what he thought was going to happen next to "Wee Bee". Alex actually stopped for a moment to think and then told me his whole theory. I asked for him to draw me a picture, and write a couple of sentences under it, and he did! It was the first time all summer that he wrote willingly.

I love the fact that the IBW-Books are in both English and Spanish, as we are trying to build the childrens bilingual vocabulary little by little, and own very few books in Spanish. The webscenes are even in Spanish as well, which help to reinforce the key words we are learning or concentrating on.

Both Alex and Abbie enjoyed the IBW-Books that we received to review, and I look forward to seeing what new titles become available. Also, if you're looking for a new way to earn some extra money from home, IBW-Books offers a work-at-home sales position selling their fun and educational books!

Want it?

Barney Book Fair Review and Giveaway!

I have a confession to make. It's rather serious. In fact, it's something that I swore I would never do.. long before the plus sign.. I swore that I would never be a Barney Mom.

My confession is, that not only do my kids adore the big purple dinosaur, but so do I! I love the way the songs and dances captivate the children's attention, the morals and lessons in the stories are wholesome and appropriate, and that I never need to worry about hearing or seeing anything that might make me (or the kids) uncomfortable.

My niece is about 11 years old, and I remember when she was little, how she knew every word and every dance move to every Barney song ever. After Alex was born, the thought of Barney made me shudder, because I couldn't envision listening to him all day the way my sister had with my niece. Alex was about 11 months old and I had a moment where he was starting to chip away at my nerves. The only thing I could think of was Barney. I figured it was worth a shot, so I put it on, and instantaneously he stopped his whining, and complaining, and stared in awe at the purple dinosaur dancing on the screen.

It was absolutely amazing, and from that moment on, I became a Barney Mom. My son loved Barney, and watched every episode, the first full length movie he ever sat through was Barney's Great Adventure. Although it didn't contain the normal fun, educational content, it was a cute movie for a child who loved Barney as much as he did. I grew over the last 6 and a half years, and now sing and dance along to every song with the kids, and enjoy being a Barney Mom!

Now that he's older, he'd never admit it, but he still likes to watch Barney.. Abbie has followed her brothers footsteps and lights up with glee as soon as the first note starts to play.

Recently, we were able to review several Barney DVD new and upcoming releases including, Sharing is Caring, Barney's Jungle Friends, and Barney Book Fair, a new DVD + Book Collection.

From the press release:
Barney’s friends are holding a book drive in the park and you’re invited to attend in Barney’s Book Fair available on DVD since July 14, 2009 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment. This special DVD release packages a full-length DVD inside the custom-sized reprint of the 20-page hardcover Barney storybook, Count to 10, for a low SRP of $14.98. Little ones will love the combination of Barney fun, on screen and on the page, and moms will love the incredible value!

Trusted by moms and adored by children, Barney displays sharing, caring, imagining, dancing and learning on television, online and through live events, home entertainment and publishing. The Emmy award-winning series, Barney and Friends changed the face of children’s programming when it first launched and continues to be one of the top-rated preschool shows today, airing on PBS KIDS® and PBS KIDS SproutSM.

DVD SYNOPSIS

Every time the kids in the park open a book, a new tale begins in Barney’s Book Fair DVD. Reading helps their imaginations grow and inspires the kids to build a make-believe rocket, put on a circus and create their own books.

Using bright, bold colors and a simple story line for young eyes, Barney’s Count to 10 storybook will excite even the youngest readers to count to 10 again and again!

On Juggling and Surfing

As a mom of 6, I know many think my situation can't be like theirs. After all, SIX kids has to be nearly impossible! I must be insane, running to and fro like a lunatic all day! I must have some mom secret no one else has! How can I juggle a home business, homeschooling and keeping a home, not to mention keeping hubby happy? I'm SUPER mom!

Ha. Nothing could be further from the truth. Or, perhaps, It is ALL true. I'm going to give you some big secrets. You won't find this in any supermarket self help book, e-newsletter or $10 e-book online. Oh, and I'm not a P.H.D. in child "anything", so you may not want to bet your life on this advice. Here is advice #1, and it's not even my advice, a friend got it from a mom of 300 in the park one day.

You're going to screw it up. Yes. Somewhere along the line, you're going to do it wrong. Now, get over it. Move on, you have too much to do to worry about whether your kids will need counseling because you didn't bring them to enough play dates or have a perfect home.
Next piece of advice. This will help you deal with advice #1.

Your kids will love you anyway. My mom always told me, if you give them equal parts love and discipline, they will be balanced. They are not keeping score, you'll just know. This brings me to the next advice.

You have to discipline your kids. They will not break. They actually appreciate knowing who is in control. This goes beyond "please don't touch that stove or run into the street." This means when you say "wait", they wait. When you say "ask me once, and don't whine", they do it because they know you mean what you say, you'll do it, on your time, when you can. This does teach them to respect other people's boundaries. This will be painful at first, but the best training I ever gave my kids was that they better not carry on once I say something. It takes longer with some than others, and consequences were quick and sometimes painful (no, not just spanking), but it works. This sounds harsh, but things run smoothly when, 1. they do as they are told immediately and 2. they all pitch in, even the 2 year old. This way, I can be freed up to give them what they actually need. Give them as much responsibility as they can be taught, you'd be surprised. Everything I do here, I ask myself, can THEY do this? Everything they ask for, I say, you can get it yourself, or you can wait.

Capable, responsible children are trained, they don't just appear. Next advice.

Pick your battles. You've heard this. I mean everywhere. Do I NEED or WANT this. What are my priorities, kids with impeccable matching outfits, clean rooms and the ability to NEVER bicker? Or kids who are polite, helpful and can work out their problems themselves without fisticuffs and screaming? Refer to the last advice on this. Teach them the boundaries of interpersonal behavior with you and each other, and stick to it! It may take until they're 18, but, well, it's our job. For ourselves, do we CARE if the house is immaculate, or will this wait? Sometimes I wish I had time for manicures and salons, but usually I'd rather just not go out. I have shoes to make and the kids have teen group, plus I MUST have dinner on the table every night. Learn how to say "no" everywhere in your life.

A confession: Sometimes I stay up until 2 am, JUST to get some alone time. Socializing online is addictive, I'm sure you all know. My biggest hurdle to reach before school starts is to know when to STOP, and go to sleep. I can keep making shoes, promoting, tweeting. All night. Must stop doing this.

One last thing. This is a huge issue for many women I talk to. It may be controversial for some since we've been weaned on feminism, but for 20 years it's worked for me with boundless returns. And I've seen the opposite NOT work. It's about our husbands. They're men, so it's simple. If the hubby/partner situation is a problem in juggling home/family/business/sanity, stop and think. Do you fill his love bank with what he REALLY needs? Because honestly, it's simple with most reasonable men. They need very little, really. Do they come home to the chaos we've dealt with all day? If we're working, they understand, most of the time, but if there's food on the table, a little love and attention ("I APPRECIATE your help SO much honey, you're my HERO!!"), goes a long way, and to not have to listen to the minutia of each small issue we're totally wired to deal with amongst our friends and female relatives. If you need something, just ask for it. They don't need the story, or hints, or resentments, it doesn't work anyway! Another great piece of advice, and this is a HUGE secret; if you want something done, start doing it yourself. Even if you can't. In the end, either you will be proud of the work you did, or he'll jump in and help. Men are doers, not listeners. Think of the teacher on the Peanuts cartoons. That is what we sound like to most men.

Disclaimer: This advice does not cover each situation and is not meant to. We all need to know how much we can handle, and handle what we take on. My daughter will not melt if she doesn't have dance lessons, and hubby will have to iron his own shirts. I have boundaries, you know.

The First Day of First Grade

This year, I am expecting so much from our elementary school experience, on the sole factor that last year's kindergarten experience was atrocious. After we switched schools, I must say, things did get better, but it was still a very long and very difficult journey.

The end of last week we were able to meet the teacher, (we'll call her Mrs. M.) I've heard a lot of great things about her, so I am hoping that she will be a good placement for Alex. If you have just started following us, Alex is gifted- obviously very bright, and sharp as a tack. If he is not engaged- he acts out, because the school he started in last year blatantly ignored him, and secluded him. Not the way you handle a gifted child, or any child for that matter. Anywho-

While we were waiting to meet her, Alex was super happy to find his name on the "Whoooooooo's in 1st Grade?" bulletin board & Growing Tree. Alex is still the tallest kid in his class, but as he measured his height, he realized some of the names on the tree looked very familiar. Sure enough, a good handful of kids that were in his class last year are there again!

We explored the classroom some more, as we waited to meet his teacher. Mrs. M. seems very nice, and handled the oodles of information that I presented to her within the first 60 seconds rather well, so I am hopeful. I also got to meet the substitute for the 2nd grade, (the real teacher is on maternity leave, and due back in December). She seemed very authoritative.. but I honestly only had a moment with her, so as time progresses, I am sure my opinions will come out much more.

So yesterday morning, after a huge bowl of Kix, a banana, some juice and a bunch of pictures, I loaded both of the kids into the Jeep, and on our way we went. When we got to his classroom, I took a few pictures of him there, and his desk, and told Abbie to give him a big hug and a kiss. She laid a big smooch on him, and I bent down to give him a kiss... and he turned his head! "You can kiss me on my cheek Mom."

Mom?! What the heck happened to Mommy? Your cheek?! I didn't know whether to wig out, or cry.. First grade is too old for Mommy to kiss her son? I had a moment, and smiled as I kissed his cheek, and told him to have an excellent first day of school. Abbigaile and I left, and headed home to where the "ladies" (aka the other Mommys I met at preschool!) came over and we had our own little boo-hoo breakfast of bagels, OJ and Coca-cola! After a toast to the new school year, we exchanged cameras to see all of our children's first days, and after they left Abbie asked me if we were going to start 'school' now.

We picked up our crayons, scissors and glue and learned all about the color red, drew some pretty hearts and practiced cutting.. paper, not hair.

Over all, the first day of school went very well. Alex even got an "Excellent Listening at PE" note home. He said he likes his teacher, a little bit better than last year's teacher, and that he thinks this year is going to be a lot better.

Make Lunch More Eco-Friendly with Reusable Sandwich and Snack Bags! Review And Giveaway!

I am not a frunchy mama. I aspire to live a greener, healthier life with my children, and keep everything in balance. We recycle when we can, and use reusable bags at the grocery store, and we have cut back on the cleaning supplies with harmful chemicals in them drastically in the last two years. Those little steps find me closer to my goals of making a better living environment inside and outside of my home for my children.

While preparing for back to school, (and cruising through Etsy!), I happened to find this great little shop called Fray Baby Bibs & More. They have such a great selection of handmade, reusable lunch baggies, purses, totes, pencil cases, feeding and burping accessories for baby, scarves, toys and more! All of the prints are fresh, modern, trendy, and fashionable. Whether you're looking for baby, children or mom herself, you'll find something that will delight every taste and budget. We had the opportunity to review three reusable bags this month, the snack sized bag, the velcro closure lunch bag, and the flip top lunch bag. These reusable bags are functional for carrying food, waterproof and anti-microbial. The patterns and styles available will appease to preschoolers and high schoolers alike. To clean the bags, just flip them inside out and wipe clean or throw them in the washing machine. All of the bags are machine washable and dryer safe.

I love the the velcro and the flip and fold sandwich bags! The velcro closure was much easier for Alex to figure out how to open, but after I showed him what to do for the flip top one, he quickly became a pro. For Flip and Fold instructions, feel free to view the tutorial here.

He's super excited about his "Real-Life-SUPER-HEROES" sandwich bag.. (see the pic to the left!), and can't wait to bring it to school to show his new friends.

The snack sized bag that we received was a flip top style. It was great, but with little hands, it made opening it a little more difficult. The first time Alex tried, he got grapes everywhere. However, the snack sized bags are also available with the velcro closure, so the little kids can have their snacks too. The flip top snack bag would be ideal for older elementary school kids and middle school aged children. If I worked outside of my home, I would definitely invest in these reusable bags as well.

..Maybe I'm becoming a more frunchier mama as we speak!

The new fall line of See Kai Run is available now, and the new Jaewon sneakers showed up on our doorstep just about a week ago!

Abbie was ecstatic to receive her new shoes, and was super excited to wear her new back to school sockies as well! (Living in Florida, during the summer, we all live in flip flops.)

The last time we reviewed See Kai Run, we got to try the adorable peek toe Jennae shoes, and I was extremely happy with the quality of those shoes. It was my first experience with See Kai Run, and I fell instantaneously in love with their quality products!

The new line of shoes are just as adorable, and just as superbly made. The leather is incredibly soft, with a sturdy, yet flexible sole- perfect for growing feet.

The Jaewon sneaker shoes pictured above are made with mock laces and a velcro closure, which makes putting them on and removing them easy for little hands, without the frustrations of laces.

Preparing for preschool can be difficult enough on our little ones, so this year invest in a beautiful pair of See Kai Run sneakers or shoes for your little man or lady, and make getting out the door easy, fun and fashionable!

"Hot On The Range" Children's Book Review and Giveaway!

I love reading with my children, and I have been since Alex was a baby. I firmly believe in not pushing anything onto kids- food, reading, potty training, and that when they want it- they will crave it. We reached a point in time where they both went through a phase where they did not want to read, they did not want me to read to them- they were over it.

For Alex it lasted about 5 months, with Abbie it was going on about 4 months, and would only read this small board book about horses until we got the book, "Hot on the Range", by R.D. Jentsch.

Abbigaile LOVES "horsies". LOVES horsies. When we received the book, she was so excited.

"MY Horsie book, mommy?? Iz for ME! I looove horsies, mommy. I read mine book, mommy?"

She sat on the recliner and flipped through the pages carefully, while intently examining the horses and barnyard animals illustrated throughout the pages. She got through "reading" the book and asked, "Say the words to me, Mommy?"

I sat down with her and read the book, cover to cover, twice. The story itself is super cute and tells about a very hot day on a Texas farm and how a beautiful painted horse named Chester, tries to stay cool.

While visiting the other animals in the barnyard, each animal and their personalities shine through their conversation with Chester, and their solution to the heat. Thankfully, Chester finds the perfect way to get cool, before he returns to his friend whom he left in the beginning, under a shaded tree.

R.D. Jentsch is a very talented author that strives to help young or aspiring authors meet their dreams. She writes for her nieces and her experience with children (and horses!) shine through her writing. The end of this August, expect the second new release from R.D. Jentsch, called "Froggy and Friends Go to the Creek".

Nine Naturals Review & Giveaways! Win a Shampoo + a Chance for the SUPER $250 Great Mom Giveaway!

Organic foods and beauty products are all the rage, and why not? I don't know about you, but the ideas of putting cancer causing chemicals into or onto my body just doesn't appeal to me. This fall, we were faced with the possibility that my son had a learning disability or a behavioral problem, so while we were waiting for our doctors appointments, I began researching different foods and products that I could use that would decrease the amount of toxins my family was consuming and using on our bodies. Among the many interesting items I've found, I happened to find the company, Nine Naturals.

Nine Naturals is a top of the line healthy hair care designed just for moms-to-be, (or in my case, health conscious moms). Nine Naturals was originally created for pregnant moms because pre-natal safety is often the number one concern during pregnancy. So, they developed an amazing line of shampoos and conditioners without the chemicals that are suspected to cause harm. Their products contain no parabens, no phthalates, no silicone, no sulfates, and no DEA-EVER. There are chemicals in many beauty products that can lead to birth defects or act like hormones that interfere with the normal reproductive system. Pregnant moms don’t want that and neither does Nine Naturals. They set their quality standards high so that you can be assured that no matter which product you use, you are doing all that you can to feel confident, safe and that your baby is protected.

I recently had the opportunity to try out their wonderful shampoo, and it really is refreshing! I know that Nine Naturals will be a part of our family's daily routine for quite some time! I feel comfortable using Nine Naturals on my hair, as well as on my children. The minty smell is invigorating, and seems to melt the stress of a long day away. Nine Naturals is a "green" eco-friendly solution to your current beauty products.

WANT IT?
Right now, Nine Naturals is giving away a fabulous $250 beauty giveaway on their website by taking the What Kind Of Mom Will You Be? quiz! I entered, and the results told me that I as going to be an "Overprotective" Mom, and my husband agrees. Nobody can mess with my kids, or my beauty products!

The $250 Great Mom Giveaway ends on July 22 and the winners will be announced on July 25th. So head over to Nine Naturals and enter the contest, and leave me a comment if you've done so.

WIN IT HERE!
Nine Naturals has given one lucky 4BabyAndMom winner the opportunity to win a full size Shampoo!

Here's how:
Head over to Nine Naturals, and sign up for their email newsletter. Leave me a comment telling me that you've signed up, and why you want to use Nine Naturals Shampoos & what you do to limit the chemical exposure in your life. You must complete this entry before you can submit additional entries.

KaBoogie Baby Moccasins Review and Giveaway!

With NewBaby in the house, finding shoes that fit here were near impossible. She had the smallest feet I had ever seen, very long and slender, but still petite in every way! Newborn shoes were too big, and I couldn't find a simple pair of preemie shoes that wasn't a christening type shoe. A friend of mine suggested checking out Etsy for someone who makes baby shoes and booties, and I happened to find KABOOGIE.

KaBoogie makes repurposed leather goods, moccasins, soft sole shoes, headbands, hand bags and home items. The items in their shop are all handmade, quality detailed products that your friends and family will take notice of right away!

I've had the pleasure to to talk to Audrey, (the shop owner), and got to know her better, as the "Spring Fling" and craft show chaos were quickly approaching. This incredible mom of 6 shared some wonderful insight, some stories with me, and it was absolutely delightful.

It's truly wonderful to get the realization that behind the great products you use and
purchase from an online shop, store, or boutique, that there was a warm face behind it that spent countless hours dreaming and creating the product you love!

WANT IT?
Check out KaBoogie on Etsy now for their selection of fabulous soft soled shoes, mocs, headbands, bags and home decor. Pick out your favorite styles and be sure to let them know 4BabyAndMom sent you!

Busy Week at 4BabyAndMom!

What a week!
Tonight has literally been the first time in about 8 days that I've truly been able to just have a moment to myself. This week we had some legal stuff hit the fan with NewBaby, and her biological parents and the "system". Unfortunately, I cannot get into what exactly went on, but know that she (and the whole situation) still needs tons of prayers, good thoughts, and all the well wishes you can spare.

This week my parents announced to the entire extended family that after 42 years of marriage, they've filed for divorce. My immediate family has known since January, and it's been quite the nut to swallow. We- Brian and I- are doing ok with it, but since it was announced my phone hasn't stopped ringing with relatives asking what the heck happened. My answer is the same for everyone, I have no idea. I have friends that went through their parents separating or divorcing, and they said after being married for so long, that one day they just didn't "know" that person anymore. Although it's hard for us now, I know it's going to get harder- especially for my kids. They absolutely worship the ground Grandma and Grandpa walk on, and when one is around they constantly ask where the other one is. Thankfully, I believe that they are young enough that even though it will affect them, that I don't believe it will cause extreme damage. I do believe that anything is possible and that God has the ability to heal all things that are broken, but you have to want to fix it. At this time, I do not believe either of my parents wish to fix it, and that saddens me.

This week I purchased my direct domain! I once owned 4BabyAndMom.com and ran a very small business making handmade items for both women and children. I am excited to re-open the direct domain very soon, with a new and exciting layout and look for 4BabyAndMom! It's a work in progress, and I am super excited to complete it and relaunch the site!

As you read in my last post, we also had guests stop by unexpectedly that added to the hustle and bustle this week. They will be leaving tomorrow and although we had a great visit, I am happy to have our home back to ourselves.

Today Alex scored his first goal at soccer! I am so proud of him, and will be posting the story and some pictures from practice and his first game tomorrow. He plays in an Upward league and earned the grey star this week and last week he earned the gold star. He's so excited to be a part of the team, and the goal today was really the cherry on top!

This week "someone" got a hold of scissors and gave Abbie a mullet-inspired hair cut, but thankfully her hair grows like a weed, and it's growing in quickly. I thought she had the chicken pox earlier this week, but it turns out she was attacked by some No-See-Um's. She enjoyed cheering for her brother in his big game today, and kicking around the soccer ball on the sidelines.

There are some great reviews and giveaways coming up this week, and one still currently running for the ladies to splurge on something for themselves at Sweet Boutique. Be sure to check it out, and tell your friends!

Nickelodeon & Mattel Announces New Look for Dora!

"For nearly ten years, Dora the Explorer has had such a strong following among preschoolers, catapulting it into the number one preschool show on commercial television," says Gina Sirard, vice president of marketing for Mattel. "Girls really identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves. The brand captures girls' existing love of Dora and marries it with the fashion doll play and online experiences older girls enjoy." "We are thrilled to partner with Mattel to develop this brand extension that will enable girls to continue to learn and interact with their Latina heroine, Dora, as they grow up together."

I'm not sure how I feel about the "new" look Nickelodeon and Mattel have put together for Dora the Explorer. Carol Costello assured CNN viewers that Dora's "tweenage" look is much more conservative than the shadow profile above suggests. She assures viewers that Dora is wearing leggings under her skirt and that the new look portrays an icon growing up, not maturing sexually, and most importantly, Dora still "uses her brain" to problem solve and investigate her new mysteries.

The perks of the new Dora doll include the ability to link her to the internet so children can play in a "world" where they can dress her up, interact with her, and help solve Nancy Drew style mysteries. The new Dora moves from having adventures in the forest and jungle to the concrete jungle, and adventures in middle school. It has been told that the new Dora is geared for ages 5 and up, but somehow, I do not see my 5 year old playing with a doll that goes to middle school. I cannot help but feel the initial discontent most other bloggers have already displayed, but part of me is eager to see the new look of "tweenage" Dora. Dora's new look is scheduled to debut in fall of 2009.

Until then, what do you think of Nickelodeon & Mattel joining forces to give Dora the Explorer a new "Tweenage" look?

Do you think that the "Tweenage" Dora will grow with your children, or do you think that kids grow old of the new Dora just as quickly as the current Dora?

Kid Safe Ink Review and Giveaway! #25

While standing on line at the Dumbo ride at the Magic Kingdom this year, I had the biggest scare of my life. Alex, Abbie and I were standing, counting random things, to help pass the time when Alex pointed something out to me. I turned my head to look at it, and turned my head back, and Abbigaile was gone. Gone. In Walt Disney World. With 9 million people, most of them children.. I almost died. The people in front of me and the people behind me didn't see where she went to, my biggest fear was happening before my very eyes. Brian had just come back with the drinks he got the same instant the panic started to fill my eyes. He took one look at me, and saw that she wasn't next to me and started scanning the line from the outside. Thankfully, Abbigaile was ok.. she had seen a very clear tunnel of backpacks that led 5 people behind us to the elephant topiary. While I was having a panic attack, she was watching the topiary as it spun in circles.

The owner and creator of Kid Safe Ink, Heather, went through a very similar experience with her son. They were on vacation in Maui, with some friends for the holidays. Her son (who was almost 6 at the time) got separated from them on the beach. Envision 200,000 people, on a BEACH and a never ending line of hotels that all look the same, and a hysterical child-suddenly lost- running frantically in the wrong direction! It toook their group a good 45 minutes for them to finally find him, as they ran from towel shack to towel shack, hotel to hotel.

The idea behind Kid Safe Ink developed that day, and now these fun and vibrant tattoos are available in several old school cool designs, a heart, star, anchor and sparrow, as well as a combo pack or you even have the ability to use your own logo or design! What's even better, is that these tattoos come pre-printed with your phone number of choice, are super easy to apply and they truly last the WHOLE weekend!

Want it?
Head over to Kid Safe Ink and check out their awesome, sanity saving tats. Be sure to let them know that you read about them here at 4BabyAndMom!

Ooh La La Mama Review & Spectacular Giveaway! Day #24~ Fabulous February Fiesta!

Talk about cute, funky, unique clothing for your child! My husband told me that you either need a little hippie or a little punk-rock in you to truly appreciate the bold designs and patterns from Ooh La La Mama, but I've had more compliments from the dresses and shirts I received than any other outfits my kids wear!

My kids love receiving things in the mail, and most of the time, the stuff I review is geared towards Abbie's age range, so Alex often feels left out. When our package came from Ooh La La Mama, both of my children were ecstatic that there was something for them! Abbigaile got two dresses, the Peace Dove Dress and the Vintage Love Dress and Alex got a Rock Star shirt and one with a really cool vintage car!

Made of the softest cotton ever, both of the kids commented on how comfy these clothes are to wear! Seriously, I wish *I* could fit into their merchandise, they are soooooo super soft!!!! They looked awesome in their new apparel, but like a true rocker-Alex refused the Paparazzi and I was only able to capture a few of Abbigaile in her vintage Love dress. I personally love the Peace Dove dress on my daughter more, but Abbie loves wearing her 'heart dress' more. Alex's teacher LOVES the tees he got and adores Abbie's dresses.. and every time they wear them, someone asks where we got them.

WANT it?
Head over to Ooh La La Mama and check out their awesome selection of clothes from infant to 6T, in both boys and girls styles, as well as some styles that are gender neutral. Be sure to let Ooh La La Mama know that you read about them here on 4BabyAndMom!
