Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Giveaway Ends 10/15

Just in time for Halloween, we're giving away a copy of Dark Shadows, featuring Johnny Depp. Just released yesterday, this film will make a great addition to your collection. My cousin, (horror film extraordinaire) had this to say about it:

The first words that come to mind when I hear "Dark Shadows" is: vampires, werewolves, and ghosts, Oh My! Director Tim Burton has definitely put a new twist on a TV cult classic. It's an adventure that requires an open mind and a ticklish funny bone. Johnny Depp takes Barnabus Collins to new heights; between seeking love advice from hippies, and battling modern times, to reuniting with his long lost love, Dark Shadows is quite the adventure.

With this heavy hitting all star cast, it's a movie not to pass up... especially when a cameo from Alice Cooper is involved!!

Little Ones Will Love Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance

My daughter LOVES Angelina Ballerina! She dances along with the little mouse, and thinks that she's just "too cute". This August, Lionsgate and Hit Entertainment released Angelina Ballerina's first CG animated DVD!

From Lionsgate and Hit Entertainment:

Angelina Ballerina™, the eight-year old mouseling who dreams of becoming a prima ballerina, enters a whole new stage of dancing delight with the all-new CG animated Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance. Angelina is an established, best-selling publishing brand with over 25 years of success and over 50 book titles! The all-new look in brilliant CG animation launched on PBS KIDS® in Fall 2009 in 100 million homes, and has landed on DVD for the first-time ever in Love to Dance.

New music, new friends and new dancing styles await Angelina Ballerina -- a little star with big dreams -- on her first day at Camembert Academy. Dancing in the lunch yard, making new friends while remembering her old friends and rehearsing for the big show, Angelina is passionate about dance, particularly ballet, and always tries to make the best out of every situation. When little girls share in Angelina’s experiences, they’re inspired to pursue their big dreams too.

DVD SYNOPSIS

Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to take center stage with Angelina Ballerina! On Angelina’s first day at Camembert Academy she discovers new forms of music and dance, like jazz, tap and hip hop, and meets new friends who have their own unique rhythm. Together with her friends new and old, like best friend Alice and the new Hip-Hop Kid AZ, Angelina realizes that becoming a prima ballerina requires collaboration and compromise, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! Get ready to step, leap and groove as you discover your own love of dance in these fun-filled episodes!

* “Angelina’s New School” – Angelina is excited, yet nervous, about her first day of school at Camembert Academy. When she finds her new classmates proficient in other styles of dance, she tries to copy their moves – without success. Angelina soon discovers that when she’s true to her own style of dance – ballet – she excels, and soon understands that everyone is different, and different is good.

* “Angelina’s Dance Partner” – Angelina is ecstatic to have the opportunity to dance with her best friend, Alice, at Camembert Academy’s “Dance With a Partner Day.” Angelina likes to choreograph the routine down to the very last detail and Alice is happy to oblige! Unfortunately, when Alice gets the sniffles Angelina must partner with Viki, whose style of improvisation contradicts with Angelina’s style. Angelina learns the importance of collaboration, cooperation and adaptability when working with a partner.

* “Angelina’s Oldest Friend” – Angelina loves her new Camembert Academy friends and also loves her old friend Alice. She expects that both sets of friends will love each other too. Unfortunately, their first encounter is not as smooth as Angelina would have liked so the new and old friends work together to find a new way to play so all can have fun.

* “Angelina’s Sleepover” – Angelina, Viki and Gracie decide to have a sleepover the night before a rehearsal for the big performance, but they do everything except sleep! The next day they are too tired for the morning rehearsal and have to choose between an afternoon rehearsal or attending the annual Silly Hat Carnival, a fun tradition in Mouseland. Angelina and her friends decide to rehearse and learn that being prepared is the best fun of all!

* “Angelina and the Hip Hop Kid” – Angelina is very excited to be directing her very first Hip Hop Show when suddenly her star, AZ, falls and hurts his foot! Who can step into his shoes at the last minute? Marco is the number one choice. However, though he can play Hip Hop music, dancing Hip Hop is another thing. The show is in danger of not going on… unless Angelina can come up with a solution in time!

DVD BONUS FEATURES

· “Angelina Says” Game
· “Get Up and Dance” Music Video
· “I Will Be A Star” Music Video
Abbigaile started school this year for the very first time, but was so super excited to see that Angelina's first episode was, "Angelina's New School".  I love the fact that in every episode of Angelina Ballerina, youngsters learn valuable lessons like: it's good to be you-everyone is unique, everyone has their own special talent, cooperation, communication, problem solving & teamwork.

I loved the new CG animation. The difference went unnoticed by Abbie, except for her proclamation that Angelina looked "very pretty", but I took note to the changes. The quality of the picture is pristine and overall, I'm very impressed with the crisp, clean, details in the CG animation.

As a little lady that loves to dance, she absolutely fell in love with the music videos in the Bonus Features section. She has literally played them over and over for the last few weeks. I really did enjoy this new collection of episodes, and think that you and your little lady should definitely check out the new Angelina Ballerina: Love to Dance DVD!

This item was provided to us at no cost by the PR firm representing HIT Entertainment in order to facilitate a candid review of the product. Your opinion may differ.

Barbie Fashion Fairytale DVD Review

I grew up playing with my mom's Barbie dolls, and quite the collection as well. This holiday, I'm planning on gifting some of my Barbies to my little lady. In the meantime, the brand new Barbie A Fashion Fairytale DVD and matching dolls are starting to appear on shelves all over toy-land.

A very dramatic (and traumatic) beginning opens up with Barbie's dreams and world crashing down on her- first she's fired, then Ken breaks up with her- what is she to do? She decides to book a flight to Paris and visit her fashion designer aunt to get away from it all.

Barbie lands in Paris and soon finds out that her aunt's business has been sold because of a sneaky, snarky fashion "designer" that steals successful designs and pretends they are her own. Barbie and her new friend Alecia decide that it is a shame to waste the magic in the studio, and come to find out that there really is magic hiding in the studio.

Three "Flairies" (not fairies, because they have no wings), have more than just flair. Glimmer, Shimmer, and Shine have helped designers for over a 100 years make their designs bold and beautiful, and now may be in danger of losing their powers if the studio is demolished.

Can they help Barbie save her aunt's shop? Does Barbie's aunt still have what it takes? Can Barbie's new friend Alecia save the day? Will the horrid competitor across the street ruin their dreams?

Pick up your copy of Barbie A Fashion Fairytale now to see how the story weaves together in a magic tale. You can find both the DVD and dolls at toy stores near you, or online at Amazon, Toys R Us, and other retailers. The DVD runs about $12.99-$19.99 and the doll is about $29.

Thanks to MomSelect and Barbie, we were given a copy of this DVD to review. My little lady is only 4 years old, and loves Barbie movies. Some of the points in this movie (ie: breaking up, getting fired) were a little over her head, but otherwise it was a very enjoyable movie. As a mom, I hope that if she's ever faced with those trials in life that she won't want to run off to a far-away-land to escape from it all.

The story carried a great life lesson in always remembering to stay true to yourself, and a very cute plot. I loved the play on words, as the little Jack Russell terrier in the movie's name was with a french accent as "Jacq Rue-sal". They even used "redonkulous", making this film modern and trendy for the younger tweens that may still be interested in Barbie or fashion.

Alex (my seven year old son) pretended not to watch, but busted out hysterically when Ken (who was sporting a Justin Beiber style shag cut) bent over and the tush of his pants ripped, exposing some heart shaped undies.

Abbigaile thoroughly enjoyed the "Flairies" and their sass, and literally shrieked with excitement when the Glimmer used her power on Barbie's last dress in the fashion show. I think that this holiday season the Fashion Fairytale Barbie and Ken may be on her list, just for the sheer "Glimmer, Shimmer, and Shine" in both of their outfits.

Special thanks again to both MomSelect and Barbie for allowing us to review this product.

Thomas and The Runaway Kite DVD Review + Giveaway!

From Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment:
Hang on tight for a high-flying ride with Thomas & Friends™ in the all-new Thomas and the Runaway Kite flying onto DVD March 2, 2010 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment. There are jobs to be done, visitors to meet and friends to greet in this never-before-seen DVD featuring full CG animation and individual voices for all the engines. All-new content available only on the DVD features live-action host Driver Perkins, who has to rely on a naughty parrot to save the day.

Teaching timeless life lessons such as discovery, friendship and cooperation, the Thomas & Friends animated series invites children to enter a world of imagination through the tracks of a train and the words of a story.

There’s a kite on the loose and Thomas must catch it before the wind blows it from Sodor. With Gordon, Charlie and Toby by his side, Thomas learns that a helping hand keeps him right on track when it comes to rescuing kites, saving a swarm of bees, and preventing railway disasters from taking flight! Hop on board for a high-flying ride with Thomas & Friends™ in these all-new, never-before-seen train adventures!

Episodes include: “Thomas & the Runaway Kite”, “Buzzy Bees”, “Toby’s New Whistle”, and “The Biggest Present of All”.
If you've read my blog before, you know that I always jump at a chance to review Thomas DVD's, because finding a program that makes two children who are three years apart agree and sit quietly to watch is usually quite the feat. For our family, the only television show to date that this rare occurrence continually happens is with Thomas and Friends.

As a parent, I find it difficult to consistently find a positive story line that is not too "babyish" for my seven year old, and captivating enough for my 4 year old. EXCEPT with Thomas.

Aside from the traditional, adorable story-lines and tales of teamwork and problem-solving, Thomas and Friends solves my television woes with both of the children. The special features on the DVD allows my gifted son the ability to take his experience further, and role play as Abbigaile's teacher using the "How Many Shapes Do You See” Game, and the “Find What Doesn’t Belong” Game.

I was going to save this DVD for our Easter baskets, but after an excellent week, I decided to use this DVD as a reward for the kids. They loved it. I love the fact that there are multiple episodes on THOMAS AND THE RUNAWAY KITE. I love that they both can agree on this DVD, and I love the way my children interact while watching Thomas and Friends DVD's.

Whether you are like our family and are long time Thomas fans, or just looking for something for your toddler or preschooler Thomas and Friends and the Runaway Kite is a great spring time choice. This DVD would make a great addition to any Easter basket or as a reward for potty training or excellent behavior.

New Sing Along with Barbie DVD Review!

Thanks to Mom Central, our family had the opportunity to review the brand new DVD from Mattel called, Sing Along With Barbie.

Packed with 14 of your favorite Barbie songs from hit Barbie movies, your little lady will love singing and dancing along. For the little girls who love to sing, this karaoke style dvd might be a little advanced, as the bigger kids can read the lyrics right off of the screen.

That didn't stop Abbigaile from twirling and swirling and singing along with the tunes, even if she didn't wasn't that familiar with the song itself. Her absolute favorite Barbie movie is "Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses", so of course her favorite sing-along-song is "Shine".  I grabbed my camera to take a quick clip of it for you, just because it was too cute not to share. (The clip provided on Amazon is without the lyrics.)

Since we received our DVD, Marissa was also able to review it with her daughter. Her daughter is 6 and a total Barbie freak.  From the moment it began, Barbie lyrics were being belted across the living room, accompanied by more swirling and twirling, from both of our dancing princesses.

This DVD would make a great present for an upcoming birthday, or even a non-edible Easter Basket item. Check it out Sing Along with Barbie now on Amazon, or where ever great movies are sold. To learn more about Barbie and Barbie products, please visit www.Barbie.com.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Mattel. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

Our family had the opportunity to review Splish, Splash Splosh!, and by far, this is one of my favorite Thomas DVD's. The episodes on it are entertaining and fun to watch. The kids loved the real people, as well as the animated trains and new friend Charlie. Once I even caught them shouting at the TV for the trains to "Slow Down" and "stop" because it was too wet outside. This DVD opened up a great discussion about the weather between my husband and kids, filled with oodles of questions like, "Why would the train have problems stopping, daddy?". Both of the children enjoyed every minute of this DVD, and my son especially loved the special features Lift and Load game.

This is a great dvd to add to your collection, especially if you're a Thomas and Friends Fan, and I would definitely reccommend it to friends and family with children from toddlers-early elementary school age.

Snow White on Disney Blu-Ray & DVD Available Now!

Whether you've found your Prince Charming, or if you're still in-search-of, I would bet that you could still remember watching SNOW WHITE for the first time.

I remember watching, mesmorized as Sneezy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Happy, Bashful and Grumpy dig-dig-digged their mine the whole day through, with all of the gem stones glistening around them.
When I was asked to do this review on the brand new SNOW WHITE Diamond Edition Blu-ray and DVD combo pack from the One2One Network, I was so excited!

Snow White is one of my favorite Disney movies, and although I do not have Blu-ray player as of yet, I was looking forward to seeing the new vibrant colors and extra features.

Here's the specs about this combo pack:

  • Up to 6x better picture quality than DVD
  • High Definition 7.1 Surround Sound
  • Immersive activity with games and special features like 'Disneyview' – expanded viewing experience
  • Kid proof-more scratch resistant (*did you read that?!*)
  • Plays both Blu-ray and DVD discs, so there's no need to chuck or replace your entire collection
  • Blu-ray discs also play on Sony Playstation 3 players
I was very impressed by the video and image quality, and as always the story is just warming. This was the first time that either of my kids watched Snow White, and they loved it. The kids also thoroughly enjoyed all of the special features and games. They sang along with the "Heigh Ho" Karaoke Sing Along, and loved playing all of the games. What Do You See? is a game where you have to decipher a scambled image; Mirror, Mirror on the Wall is perfect for your inner princess, and Jewel Jumble tests your matching skills.

Fit Factor Children's Fitness DVD Review

After I had my children, I would workout to exercise videos all the time. I noticed when I was pregnant, doing pregnancy workouts, that my son enjoyed imitating the exercises I was doing, and decided to make it fun.. we copied The Wiggles, and exercised together. It was a blast!

I happened to find Fit Factor Kids while blog surfing at Look What Mom Found ...and Dad too!. They had this "Get Fit, Stay Healthy" video embedded in their sidebar of this energetic teen doing a workout geared specifically for kids. A workout video for kids by kids.. the mere thought excited me.

With childhood obesity plaguing our society, I am eager to help spread the word about a program geared to help children get healthy, and stay healthy without crushing their self esteem. The kids in this video are absolutely adorable, and full of tons of energy.

Watching my son attempt this video made me realize that he definitely has the same "uncoordinated" gene that my husband and I possess, but it didn't stop him. In fact, I joined in and we giggled as we mimicked animals, and playing sports. We even got into a very deep conversation about shooting basketball hoops, and how you're supposed to snap your wrist after aiming the ball.

This DVD is loaded with easy moves, and techniques to give kids a great cardio-workout, stretch, strengthen your muscles, increase flexibility and balancing skills. The best part is that each workout is just 10 minutes, so it doesn't feel like a job, or a burden on your little one- it's fun. And they look forward to doing the next workout, again, and again.

My sister recently told me that peer pressure has hit my nieces a little hard this year, and that both of the girls are starting to watch their weight. My nieces are only 8 and 11. This breaks my heart completely, as I was raised to believe that no matter what shape or size you are, you are loved and you're supposed to love yourself. My sister believes very much along the same lines as I do, but after telling her about Fit Factor Kids, she's interested in letting the girls borrow it.

I am eager to see how an older age range will take to this workout DVD, and will definitely keep you posted. If you are in the market for a kids workout that will keep your child's attention, and give your child a fun way to get healthy and stay that way, definitely give this program a try.

You can purchase Fit Factor Kids online at FitFactorKids.com.

Special thanks to Fit Factor Kids, for sending us a copy of this brilliant DVD to review.

Thomas & Friends: Hero of the Rails The Movie In Stores Now! *REVIEW & GIVEAWAY!*

Thomas_the_Train_Hero_of_the_Rails_dvdFrom the official Press Release:

Peep! Peep! All aboard for new friends, new destinations, and new voices when Thomas and his engine friends embark on their greatest adventure yet as Thomas & Friends™: Hero of the Rails steams onto DVD September 8, 2009 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment.

See and hear Thomas, Percy, James, Gordon and all the other engines as never before in this brand-new CGI-animated movie, which marks the debut of individual character voices for the engines. For the first time, fans will hear the voice of Thomas and his friends, including three new characters who debut in Hero of the Rails, as they share stories that lead to timeless life lessons of discovery, friendship and cooperation.

DVD SYNOPSIS
In this action-packed tale of friendship, determination and teamwork Thomas discovers an abandoned and broken down engine named Hiro from an exciting far away land. Fearing that he will be scrapped, Thomas enlists help from many friends including Victor, a new steam engine and Kevin, a new crane vehicle who both work at the spectacular Sodor Steam Works. But mishaps, mistakes and one boastful engine could foil their plans for a heroic rescue. Can the engine pals work together to help their new friend? Join the adventure and find out!

I love Thomas, as the lessons that are taught are practical, meaningful, and packed with traditional morals and values of honesty, helpfulness, and teamwork. The new style of animation was beautiful to watch, and the story line was very well rounded. I happened to find Sir Topham Hat a grumpy old man in this movie, but the kids enjoyed every minute.

Both of the kids have had the opportunity to watch this DVD several times. Like all Thomas the Train movies, they stared wide eyed, watching as Thomas tried to find parts to save the very old, wise, and broken down, Hiro. The kids were quick to react to when Spencer made "bad choices" and flaunted his Express talents, and just as quick to point out the positive moments as well.

If your child likes Thomas, I definitely recommend adding this movie to your home collection.

Barney Book Fair Review and Giveaway!

I have a confession to make. It's rather serious. In fact, it's something that I swore I would never do.. long before the plus sign.. I swore that I would never be a Barney Mom.

My confession is, that not only do my kids adore the big purple dinosaur, but so do I! I love the way the songs and dances captivate the children's attention, the morals and lessons in the stories are wholesome and appropriate, and that I never need to worry about hearing or seeing anything that might make me (or the kids) uncomfortable.

My niece is about 11 years old, and I remember when she was little, how she knew every word and every dance move to every Barney song ever. After Alex was born, the thought of Barney made me shudder, because I couldn't envision listening to him all day the way my sister had with my niece. Alex was about 11 months old and I had a moment where he was starting to chip away at my nerves. The only thing I could think of was Barney. I figured it was worth a shot, so I put it on, and instantaneously he stopped his whining, and complaining, and stared in awe at the purple dinosaur dancing on the screen.

It was absolutely amazing, and from that moment on, I became a Barney Mom. My son loved Barney, and watched every episode, the first full length movie he ever sat through was Barney's Great Adventure. Although it didn't contain the normal fun, educational content, it was a cute movie for a child who loved Barney as much as he did. I grew over the last 6 and a half years, and now sing and dance along to every song with the kids, and enjoy being a Barney Mom!

Now that he's older, he'd never admit it, but he still likes to watch Barney.. Abbie has followed her brothers footsteps and lights up with glee as soon as the first note starts to play.

Recently, we were able to review several Barney DVD new and upcoming releases including, Sharing is Caring, Barney's Jungle Friends, and Barney Book Fair, a new DVD + Book Collection.

From the press release:
Barney’s friends are holding a book drive in the park and you’re invited to attend in Barney’s Book Fair available on DVD since July 14, 2009 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment. This special DVD release packages a full-length DVD inside the custom-sized reprint of the 20-page hardcover Barney storybook, Count to 10, for a low SRP of $14.98. Little ones will love the combination of Barney fun, on screen and on the page, and moms will love the incredible value!

Trusted by moms and adored by children, Barney displays sharing, caring, imagining, dancing and learning on television, online and through live events, home entertainment and publishing. The Emmy award-winning series, Barney and Friends changed the face of children’s programming when it first launched and continues to be one of the top-rated preschool shows today, airing on PBS KIDS® and PBS KIDS SproutSM.

DVD SYNOPSIS

Every time the kids in the park open a book, a new tale begins in Barney’s Book Fair DVD. Reading helps their imaginations grow and inspires the kids to build a make-believe rocket, put on a circus and create their own books.

Using bright, bold colors and a simple story line for young eyes, Barney’s Count to 10 storybook will excite even the youngest readers to count to 10 again and again!

Tracey Mallett Sexy in 6 Review and Giveaway!

Since having kids, my body has gone horribly down hill from the lovely, teeny, little waist I used to have. Looking back at pictures, I cannot believe I thought I was "fat" back then. It's been a horrible struggle over the last few years, but since the beginning of this year I've really put my faith in motion, my pep back into my step, and gained the confidence I've needed to get my butt in gear.

I've read a lot of weight loss program type books over the years, and quite honestly, don't think I finished one. (I dread fitness books- they're supposed to be motivating, and usually put me to sleep!) I received the book SEXY IN 6 by Tracey Mallett, and assumed that it would take me a few weeks to read cover to cover. One night, Bri took the kids out and I decided to grab it and start reading. I was about half way through when he came home, and finished the rest of the book the next morning! The way this book reads is like no other fitness book out there, it's written by a real woman, with a very full plate. The testimonials from other women (most were.. smaller that I would have liked to have seen) were inspiring, and the whole tone just truly makes you want to get off of your butt and do something- right then and there. NEVER have I ever read any type of fitness book that lit that fire under my tush like SEXY IN 6!

Tracey defines body types, and truly explains it so you know where you stand.. and if you still think that you are neither a pear or an apple, she's got an all over program to fit your needs as well! I love that SEXY IN 6 gives you great, upbeat song selections to use while working out, and during what point of the workout, to keep your reps in sync with the beat of the music. I like the illustrations of the exercises, yoga and pilates poses, but wish they were in color instead of black and white. The point comes across either way, but I prefer color in fitness illustrations. The program consists of 6 minute intervals that you can mix and match to get the routine that works best for you. On TraceyMallett.com you can download food & workout logs, plus a progress sheet to keep track of how many inches you've lost on your personal weight loss journey.

Want it? Head over to Amazon to purchase Sexy In 6 or browse the Tracey Mallett Fitness Store for a large selection of DVD's and fitness products!
