I'm baa-aack! An update of sorts..

I just wanted to take a quick second to say hello to everyone and say thank you for bearing with us during this transition. We're still in the process of relocating, but at least now our technical stuff is all taken care of. We even renewed our domain for another 2 years! (Our next step is switching to the wordpress platform, but that's a whole other post!!)

We switched our TV/Internet/Phone providers, which was an ordeal all to itself, and installation got delayed for WEEKS instead of days. It's been quite frustrating.. but we are very happy with our new service.

With all of our life changes, we've been having problems with Alex's school again.. but we had a huge meeting a few weeks ago, and hopefully are taking a step in a good direction.

Marissa is still quite busy in her last semester of school, doing everything in her power to continue acing her last few couple of classes. We are negotiating with a new mom to jump on board and assist with couponing tips, recipes, and reviews, and we're really hoping she will join our team.

There are going to be a ton of new, fresh, exciting, and fun reviews & giveaways being posted this next week. Also, we are preparing for a "Spring into Summer" blog party, highlighting fun products for around the house, spring-cleaning, spring and summer toys and activities, craft ideas, and recipes. We are so excited to show you how much we've grown in this "vacation" of ours.

If you have a product suggestion for review or giveaway, please feel free to send it to us at 4BabyAndMom at gmail dot com. After all, you- our readers- are the reason we are still here!

If you are a PR firm or representative, we look forward to hearing your pitches and learning more about your products or services.

So... that's basically our update.

One of those days.. What would YOU do?

I've been having one of those days today.. You know the kind.

The day where you really start thinking about your life, and what you wanted 10 years ago, and what you've got now, and truly evaluate whether or not a change is needed. In my particular case, a change is imminent, but I need to figure out where that change is going to be. This may sound rambley, and if so I apologize, but I really need to get this out "there".

Last week, we visited NY for a wedding, and it was amazing. We had such a great time, and without romanticizing it completely, we missed it. Don't get me wrong- one of the reasons that we moved when Alex was little was the fact that I didn't want my children growing up as "Long Islanders". Kids have enough pressures on them in the world today, but as a Long Islander, there's a lot more. I noticed it during this trip back, and during many of the other recent trips.

I love being able to roll out of bed, make a cup of coffee, and go and sit on my porch in my snowman pajamas. In New York, I couldn't do that.. because of the whole, "What if the neighbors saw me?"attitude up there. I did (roll out of bed with my jammies and drink my coffee on the porch when I lived up there), but it's a whole different attitude that seems to have gotten worse since we've left.

Now that I'm in Florida, we're struggling with so many different things. Alex and his education, for one. Yes, he's gifted, and Florida recognizes it.. but honestly, what good is recognizing it if his needs still aren't being met?? Brian's job is another. My husband is an electrician for new residential construction. Florida is still building, but the hours just aren't there. We seem to finally get back on a good track, get a couple of inches forward, and then we have a week like this week, where he only worked two days, and his paycheck sends us two feet backward. A family of four in 2010 cannot survive on a weekly paycheck that is worth only two days. I'm starting to panic, because our "back up plan" is starting to fall through, and at the end of this month we need to make a choice.

Are we going to 'start over' down here, where we are, or do we 'start over' somewhere else.

I'm at a loss, because for once in my adult life I honestly have NO IDEA what I want. I want to be closer to our family up north. I want to find a job that will pay us both well.. and again, 4BabyAndMom has been wonderful to us, a blessing that I can't even begin to describe, but I just need something more concrete for our family. I'm not necessarily worried about finding a job for me.. I could apply to do just about anything- secretarial, substituting, retail- it's Brian that concerns me.

I love Pennsylvania, upstate New York, Connecticut, and Vermont, but can I find him a job, us a place to live, and a good school for the kids?? I feel the least resourceful I've felt in my entire life. I don't even know where to begin. I'm exasperated.

No matter what happens, or where our new beginning is going to be, I know that it's going to be difficult, but I just need a direction. Some sort of sign.. a word from God.. something.

What would you do? Pretend that at the end of this month, you are in my shoes, and need to make a drastic change.. what would you do??

Missing- One blogger.

Due to a family emergency, I will not be available to post any of the reviews and/or giveaways I intended to post this week. Me, Bri and the kids are fine, but it's been a rough week. If you could please keep our family in your thoughts, it would be genuinely appreciated. I should be back soon, I hope you all understand. If you've emailed me, please know there may be a delay in my response due to this unforeseen circumstance. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Warm Wishes,
Lauren & Family

Is it September yet?

Technically, I should be asking if it was August yet, because that is when both of my kiddos go back to school. Part of me is kidding, but the other part totally isn't.

The kids have been at each other's throat for the past four days, and I'm ready to pull my hair out. A bald bridesmaid would not be pretty, so I am trying to restrain. Today we have appointments up the wazoo.. I know the first week or so is rough (packed with appointments you couldn't get done while the kids were in school)- but dear God, give me strength.

What are you and YOUR family doing this week?

April Showers Brings... Mother's Day! (And so much more!)

Is it just me, or is Mother's Day coming a little early this year? I know that it's always the second Sunday in May, but literally last night, I just looked at a calendar and just about fell on my face!

There is so many new and exciting things going on at 4BabyAndMom this spring. Well, first, our family survived our first state competition. (Oh, and as a quick update, Days Inn ended up refunding us the entire nights stay.)

Almost immediately afterward, we had an awesome visit by two sets of family members from up north. During the visit we ate at a Tijuana Flats restaurant for the first time (oh-mi-gosh, I'm in LOVE!) and visited Clearwater, and the beach. We took a boat out to the Gulf of Mexico, and visited Shell Island. The island lived up to its name, as the white sandy shore line was covered with shells all different shapes and sizes. Abbigaile got to drive the boat.. well, she did with her uncle, but she pretended too!

We even found two sea urchin in the water! Out at sea, Alex wanted to go tubing so we let him. He knows how to swim, but he wore a life jacket- just in case. We went slow, and all of a sudden we noticed dolphins in the water around us, and him! He loves dolphins since our Sea World encounter, so he wasn't affected at all. *I* was a little nervous, but I survived. They were beautiful!

After that, Alex's uncle took him on a fan boat to look for alligators. He absolutely loved his week with his relatives, and they spoiled him rotten.. which was a great change, because usually it's Miss Abbie that's spoiled ridiculously.

Anyway- now that our company has officially moved onto bigger and better things, we're starting to get back into the swing of things. We have some great giveaways listed now, and some new ones will be posted soon.

I set a goal for myself. I really want to see if I can get 1000 Facebook Fans. I am going to be putting up a giveaway this week that will either be split- IF my goal is met, one prize pack will go to a Fan only, the other to the readers and commenters here- If I don't make the goal, the two prize packs will be given out to my readers here only. Each prize pack will have an estimated retail value of about $350! I would love it if you could help spread the word by sharing our link or profile on Facebook. Oh, also, our Facebook Fan Page is a direct url now- Facebook.com/4BabyAndMom how awesome is that?!

Keep on the lookout for a beautiful photobook giveaway from VistaPrint (valued at ~$50!) and a giveaway for a 16x20 photo canvas from CanvasPress.com, valued at over $100! I can't wait to share these great companies with you, and many more these next few weeks.

The first week of May I will be heading up to the Greater Cleveland area (aka "Cleveland Plus") for a Family Familiarization Tour. This tour will consist of 4 jam-packed days and will include various stops at family-friendly locations throughout the region including a behind-the-scenes tour of our famous Parade the Circle, stops at the renowned Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and an overnight in the Sandusky area (with tours of the area’s indoor waterparks and Cedar Point).Needless to say, I can't wait to go, and then share everything I learned with you all!

Also, after I come home from my trip, you should find some more posts from Marissa. This semester of college is almost over, and she is eager to jump into the blogging wagon in full force. I've spent the last few months trying to teach her anything and everything that I could. I am sure you all will enjoy the wealth of knowledge she brings to this site.

So that- in a nutshell- is what has been going on over here. Now that that's settled...what are you waiting for? Tell a friend, subscribe by email- so you don't miss a thing, and enjoy the next chapter at 4BabyAndMom!

Trying to Transfer to Another Host

Over the next couple of days you may start noticing some changes with 4BabyAndMom. I purchased my direct domain name about a year ago with a company I've never used before. It was so difficult for me to get used to after working with a very user-friendly company, that I settled on a redirect for the entire year. Thankfully, I got the domain name at an uber cheap price, so all in all it really wasn't that bad.

So, now that you all know me as 4BabyAndMom.com AND 4BabyAndMom.blogspot.com, hopefully everything will transfer over nicely during the next several days and we won't have any issues. *IF* per chance you are finding a glitch, or an error, or would like to provide feedback- I would love to hear all about it. This all should start sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Please contact me at 4BabyAndMom at gmail dot com with any questions, concerns or feedback.

Betty Crocker has nothing on me!

Nothing happens in my life until one week- then EVERYTHING happens, including guests from out of state, a county competition that we won and are now going to state with, another case of lice, and two of my kids birthdays. Insanity. These times are pure insanity.

Anyway, in the days after the Odyssey of the Mind competition, we decided to do a fund raiser- this week. This was officially decided and approved YESTERDAY. The bake sale is on Thursday. Only the teacher, another mom and I are going to be running it which means that tonight I need to try to make my famous cupcakes to see if I can get them to individually wrap without them getting all smushy. If not, I will only be making chocolate chip cookies (with double chocolate chips), and rice krispie treats. The teacher is going to make brownies, and maybe something else, and then be responsible for everything else- change, table, etc.

I was hoping to come up with something more creative, but I'm pretty tapped. Any suggestions or ideas for more baked goods would be great.

You all have been super patient waiting for our winners to be announced for our recent giveaways.. well, I have great news!! Keep on the lookout for winner information to be added to the giveaway posts as well as on the winner list all day today.

Have a happy Monday!

Please Welcome Marissa, Our New Team Member!

Hello everyone! My name is Marissa and I am so excited to be a part of the 4BabyAndMom team! I'm already Hyped 4 the Holidays, and hope you are too! You may have seen a few posts from me already and I thought that I should take a few moments to tell you a little about myself.

I am 27 years old and have two of the goofiest children in the world; my son is 9 and my daughter is 6. My kids are my world, and I love finding fun stuff to do with them at home, whether it be a fun new recipe or quick and easy craft ( and if I can do it without buying anything, so much the better ! ) I have an obsession with clearance shopping. I firmly believe you should never pay full price for anything, and often scout the local stores for the best bargains. When I'm not doing homework, entertaining the rugrats, or making dinner--I'm probably hidden in a book. I'm a reading enthusiast and will devour a good book in a day if given the opportunity. *waves at fellow Potter Nerds and Twi- Moms*

I have been happily married for 10 years and was a S.A.H.M. until last year when I re-enrolled in school. I've finally decided that I would like to be a teacher when I grow up, and am currently a full time college student. Better late than never, right? I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I do, but I can honestly say that I love being a student again.

So, that's me in a nutshell. I hope some of us have a few things in common and that you guys are just as excited as I am about this holiday season. Thanks 4 reading!

I am so sick..

Last night lying in bed, I was thinking of the worst possible post ever. Top 5 symptoms you might have Swine Flu: You feel like a pregnant pig, and want to lay on your side for a week. As your fever rises, you feel the sizzle from your skin on your sheets.. Yeah, I told you it was bad. Yesterday I thought I was dying, and convinced I had the Swine Flu. I had two days of a 102 fever, and fought it off.

But, as always, I over did it today, and now at 9:30pm, am completely and utterly exhausted, nauseated, and feeling feverish once more. I did not go to the doctor, because when we brought Alex in before I went to the conference, they said if it was the swine flu (which it wasn't) they would treat it no different than the regular flu.

I had the regular flu a couple of times in my life. What I had on Friday and Saturday was pure evil. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, if I ever had a worst enemy. I am fighting off the second wave of this as I type, trying to prepare my week of posts, so I ask you, my readers, to bare with me... I have a ton of fabulous giveaways in store for as soon as I can look at my computer for more than 20 minutes without getting sick.

Reviews and giveaways from Curious Chef, Zhu Zhu Pets, Zola, and so many more, so please bare with me. Any good thought and get well soon wishes would be greatly appreciated.

Good Golly- What a Week... And it's not half over!

Tomorrow I leave for Izea Fest, 2009. I'm super excited, but it's wild how last minute prep tends to take over.. And so does the stress! Alex and Abbigaile were tested for the Swine Flu- thankfully, they did not have it. Alex had some 24 hour virus, and Abbie, thankfully, has been feeling ok.

I found out that two very important people in my family, are getting biopsies on a "mass" that doctors found. The one family member has a mass in her breast, the other on her cervix. Any good thoughts or prayers you could spare would be greatly appreciated.

So this week so far has pretty much gone like this: the friend that I will be rooming with flew down here to a family function in Orlando, I picked her up on Monday, got a $250 speeding ticket, battled possible H1N1, had my friend print me out business cards because the ones I ordered didn't come in in time, paid the water bill-twice, visited my sister in the ER (no, she doesn't have a mass), re-painted the trim and doors in my house, shopped until I dropped, allowed my roommate to spray paint my coffee table black, and tried not to lose my sanity. I'm exhausted, and fully looking forward to a full night of sleep without anyone tugging at me, waking up in the middle of the night, or after I finally fall asleep having the alarm whine rhetorically across the room.

I still need to buy extra batteries for my camera, and pack.. but I think I can manage that tonight and tomorrow morning without collapsing. I can't shake the feeling that I'm forgetting something.. Any suggestions?

A Long Weekend Ahead

This week has been very busy. I realized that I haven't had a moment to write a personal post in awhile, so I figured now is just as good of a time as any.

A couple of weeks ago, my minivan was repossessed. With the decrease in the building industry, my "new construction, residential journeyman electrician" husband's hours decreased dramatically. One week he worked 18 hours, the next 28, another 32. This fluctuated for months, until the only two major bills we had, (our house and the van), fell behind. The snowball continued to roll, and things got ugly.

We called a couple of advertised companies that promised financial help for homeowners in need, and after they figured out that we had only $2k in credit card debt, they basically laughed at us. At first, it was a huge blow to the both of us. But we took the reigns, and decided to be proactive, and productive.

We called both companies and tried to work with them. Thankfully, our mortgage holder was able to work with us, but the people who financed our minivan were not as flexible. We made a decision as a team, as a family, that we were going to have to let it go.

Yesterday, my girlfriend took us down (almost 2.5 hours!) to pick up our bag of "stuff" that was in our minivan. The only things of value- excluding my carseats-were the GPS, the portable DVD player, and my camera.. the only reason that stuff was in it is because the week it was repoed, I was helping my mom move, and needed things to keep the kids occupied, took pics of her new place, and well, the GPS is there for obvious reasons.

Well, I get the bag of miscellaneous stuff, and open it in the back of my friends van, and notice my GPS and my DVD player are GONE. The case and charger for the Tom Tom was there, but not the unit itself. The cords we used to rig the DVD player onto the seats were there- but not the acutal player. After another 20 minutes arguing with the guy, trying to convince him my stuff was in there, I called Alex over and asked him to tell me what we did the day before the van "disappeared". (God, I love the fact my son has an awesome memory!)

Me: "Do you remember what happened after we went to Perkins with Grandma the day before the van disappeared?"

Alex: "We got in the car and I was trying to turn on the Tom Tom. You got upset with me because I wasn't listening to you and getting in my seat. I put the Tom Tom back when you were buckling up Abbigaile, because I couldn't get it unplugged before you were done, and I didn't want you to yell...

Then... on our way back from Grandma's new house- not her old house where her and Grandpa used to live- we watched Madagascar 2, Return to Africa," oh-so-matter-of-factly.

I thanked my son, and sent him on his way, and looked at the man like, "SEE??!!"

The guy assured me that he would "look into it" and if it should magically show up, (my words, not his), they'll UPS it to me. I asked him if they had insurance if they couldn't find it. He asked for 48 hours, and we'd deal with that if we got to that point. I told him I'd call first thing Tuesday morning.

After our eventful morning, we stopped at Cracker Barrel with our friends, and met up with my cousin, Keith. Keith recently became a NYC Police Officer. It's hard for me to look at him and realize the boy that used to get into so much mischeif is now someone of authority. In one aspect, it's completely awesome, but in the other, it's horrifically scary! It was great seeing my cousin, and by the time we got home it was about 4:30pm.

I was shot. Emotionally, mentally, physically exhausted. I ended up going through all of the stuff again more thoroughly, and in the midst of the pile of CDs that were in the bag guess what I found?? Madagascar 2. Feh.

I called the guy again, left a message for him, and figured on Tuesday I'll figure out how to proceed. I'm hoping that they magically turn up in a UPS box on Monday or Tuesday morning, although I don't have high hopes.

We were fortunate enough to be able to buy a cheap, used, older Jeep, so my goal for today is to switch the license plates over from the van to the Jeep. I don't care that it's older, it fits my family, it runs, I am not above it. I do hope that we can get it unstuck from defrost, because me without air conditioning is just.. not good.

The fact that we don't have another super high payment we are obligated to pay, plus the insurance went down about $40/month, has definitely made the whole situation better.

Things are starting to turn around.. I can feel it.

On a really positive note, Brian's job is picking up. He came home from work the other day and asked if we had plans for Saturday. Although it's my mom's birthday, we have no plans.. He informed me that there was a note above the time clock that said all crews were required to work on this Saturday- MANDATORY.

I'm excited about a full day of overtime, but nervous that his job will decrease hours the rest of the week, or give them a sporadic day in the middle of the week that they'll be off, just because. As sad as it sounds, they've done stuff like that before, so I will rejoice completely on Thursday of next week, when Bri comes home with the full week in hours!

So that's what's been going on in my little corner of the world. I'm trying to re-coop from the storms a the beginning of the month, and catch up on all the reviews and giveaways that should have been posted. More will be posted come Sunday evening/Monday morning. I hope you are all enjoying your summer with the kiddos!

New Look for 4BabyAndMom!

If you're looking around thinking, "what the heck happened here?!"- have no fear, you're in the right place! After pricing out some beautiful designers, and listening to my friends tell me to just "try it", I decided that until I can save up the extra dough for a professional makeover, that whatever I came up with would have to do. I've impressed myself! Not so bad for a newbie blog design, huh? Ok, so there's a ton of tweaking I need to finish tomorrow.. er- later today- like the gigantic pile that's supposed to be a pretty cloud at the bottom, but I need to head to bed. (I have no idea how I'm going to wake up in the morning!!) Thank God Brian's home tomorrow!

So.. what do you think? Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!

My 100th Post!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the loyal readers of 4BabyAndMom, and the fantastic companies that have sponsored all of our reviews and giveaways from January until now.. and beyond! I have had much success to date with 4BabyAndMom and I cannot wait to see the amazing things that God continues to put in front of me. I have developed many new talents and frustrations (html codes!!); made many new friends, networked with some very interesting, smart, and fun individuals & companies, and just had a blast while doing it!

I was told right before I started this journey by a dear friend of mine, to set goals. My first thought was that, "If I could make it through the first 5o posts, with a decent amount of followers, I would continue blogging." I blew that away, along with the first 'official' goal I set. I set a magic number in my head and on paper regarding followers on Blogger, by feeds and on Twitter. In the process of obtaining my 'magic number', I found an amazing webinar series by Joel Comm, one of the leading experts on social media for businesses and author on the NY Times Bestseller List. I learned to set higher goals, to surround myself with successful people through social networking outlets and all the rest would flow.

What's higher than a goal that's been labeled 'unacheivable'? I was told that one particular product was going to be "impossible" to get, as the company stopped sending them to mom bloggers. That there were several other mom bloggers that had requested the product and were turned down. I was told that it was a large company and that they would never send it to me, because in the "blogosphere" I was still the newbie on the block. I really wanted to try that particular product, kept my faith, and knew that I would acheive it. Sure enough, that lovely little product has been used more than any other product in my home this week! (No, I'm not going to tell you what it is yet- what's the fun in that?!)

The third goal was to get to BlogHer '09. With all the drama that happened over the last few months, (between my parents and the baby's birth parents), I had to stop conciously working towards that goal, and the conference is now sold out. I've entered a drawing to win tickets, and still have faith that if I am supposed to go, the door will open, but I definitely know that next year- I am there!

My fourth goal is to attend the IzeaFest this coming October. I had such a blast meeting the other mom bloggers, Wendy Piersall and Ted Murphy at Sea World with Alex at the Tweet-up, that I will not let this opportunity pass me by! I am so excited to meet more people that I've seen on twitter and blogs, and the ability to learn from the best.

So that's my goals, in a nutshell. And my experience for the first 100 posts! Help me celebrate by participating in all of the amazing giveaways on my blog this week, and next week! Hurry, before you know it the contests will be over and we'll be at post 200!

It's Blog Award Time Again!

I knew that bloggers usually make a circle of friends they've never met in real life- but never did it dawn on me that while blogging I would meet some of the most amazing, inspiring, phenomenal families, ladies and friends I could have ever asked for!

Without further a-do...

Heather of Grab Bag Reviews sent me the HONEST SCRAP award!
The rules: Honorees are to list 10 honest things about themselves - and make it interesting, even if we have to dig deep! Second, we are to pass the award on to 7 bloggers we feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.

1. Most of my family and friends lives 1500 miles away.
2. My New Year's resolution every year is to get more organized! (Every year I get a little better..)
3. I HATE shoes. I would rather be barefoot or in flip-flops in any kind of weather!
4. I love to paint.. I used to be really creative, and wish I had more time to devote to it.
5. I bite my nails.. My parents tried everything when I was little, and even now, I still do.
6. I would love to be an interior decorator!
7. I worked as a Teacher's Assistant for 3 years with children who were mentally, emotionally, and/or physically disabled, before I got pregnant with my son.
8. I watch The Biggest Loser and eat really "bad" food.
9. I am allergic to MSG, phenylalanine, and all artificial sweeteners.
10. One of my dearest friends lives in Brazil.

Now it's my turn to send this award on it's way! The seven blogs I choose to receive this award are:
Jamie at Funky Cheapskate Mama
Mariana at Riding With No Hands

Remember when I went to Sea World with Alex?

I was fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to write a guest post about our experience feeding the Dolphins at Sea World, Orlando. Click on the link below to read my blog entry, and let me know what you think, here and there!

While you're there, if you'd like to leave some love for a great bloggy-mommy friend of mine, Kathleen Zak, and check out all of the other great Dolphin stories- that would be awesome!

We really did have the time of our life. Alex really enjoyed all the technical and educational stuff, the staff was just amazed how he soaked up everything, and I just LOVED experiencing everything through his eyes!

Ok, ok-- enough rambling from me, I have to go pick Alex up from school.. go check out the Dolphin Bubbles, and leave some love for me and Kathleen, and check out all the cool pics!
